EasyRecovery Pro actually works pretty well. Media Tools Professional (very hard to find) is really good - nearly forensic quality.

TestDisk is probably among the best, I'd try it first. (This should be your best shot, it's also freeware which is great).

I've heard positive things about "Recuva", but I haven't used it myself.

Aside from that, Ontrack EasyRecovery Professional is pretty well known and a good product.

And if you want to try the same stuff Law Enforcement uses, EnCase Forensic is where it's at.

You could make regular full hard drive backups. Use Acronis home image, it doesnt take any chances!

Have you tried Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery Software. It is a file and partition recovery utility which recovers lost data due to software malfunction, file/directory deletion or even sabotage.
Download the demo version from: http://www.stellarinfo.com/partition-recovery.htm
It will help you to determine whether to go with the software or not. If the demo shows the recovered data then get the full version to save it.

Hope it does work for you.

I have used Recover My Files , and I must say its mighty impressive.

I use 3 together. If one of them miss anything , the other surely finds it

Stellar Phoenix , Recover My files and Ontrack Easy Recovery.
