So the power supply on my desktop left town. I decided to mess with this computer to see if I could finally get the usb to accept storage devices. So far....no.
Here's the issue:
Compaq Presario 3210CA
- six open usb ports [none 2.0]
- has the latest bios
- has oem xp home
- has always accepted peripheral devices [printers and the like]
- has never accepted peripheral storage [mp3 players, cameras, external drives]
The external hard drive I'm pissing with has absolutely no markings on it. The maker must have been ashamed. Literally nothing. It never occured to me while the desktop was running to write down any of the info on what the item was.
XP Pro loads the device automatically, xp oem wants me to direct it to where I keep my drivers. In particular it can't seem to find usbstor.sys. It's my belief that it's a generic driver, but I can't find anywhere to download it.
Ideas?
Umm, ya forget it.
I had no more than submitted the post when I got it.
The file should be here:
c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbstor.sys
