Anonymous P2P Has a Bright Future

I think the way forward is to make anonymous clients for the few not the many.

A bit like Bit Torrent rather than emule / gnuttela.

Bandwidth limitation becomes critical when you try to create a large network as each users tries to use a lot more bandwidth that they provide.

emule has similar issues (music downloaders often share bandwidth with movie downloaders) so it is often slower than Bit Torrent.

Whereas in Bit Torrent users "Swarm" around individual files. So creating many thousands of mostly very small networks (I know there are exception e.g. blockbuster movies with very big swarms). This usually makes it quicker to download a specific individual file.

Last time I posted in Slyck.com a user wareznews posted my family's home address (BTW this was could have been seen at my work place the B***** Red Cross Society in London) in an effort to shut me up.

Anonymity is need for free speech. How many of you would post here if the mod routinely posted you home address and name for all web users to see?

The mods at Slyck.com left his posting up for a day although I complained (both to users at Slyck.com and at here, SOULXTC said it was a disgrace (paraphrasing)).

So you can see Slyck.com is anti-anonymous p2p probably for obvious reasons (they don't want to be on a corporate block list because they would be in effect be promoting hacking).

So for Bit Torrent individual user bandwidth is not critical.

I have developed a Anonymous Bit Torrent type application.

I have a site that lists content (not specifically but generally) like a thePiratebay.org type of index website.

I have developed a tracker that keeps swarms connected together without revealing what users are sharing.

And I have modified an existing anonymous P2P client ( ANts p2p) to create swarms around individual content categories.

I have tested it (though it is still alpha) and people from around the world have used/tested it.

If you want to try it (to test) go to link, answer yes to questions. Wait for connection then search and download with client.

Lastly, let me just clarify this "anonymous p2p" is the name of a type of p2p it is not actually anonymous.

The wikipedia definition is:

An anonymous P2P computer network is a particular type of peer-to-peer network in which the users and their nodes are pseudonymous by default. The primary difference between regular and anonymous networks is in the routing method of their respective network architectures. These networks allow for unfettered free flow of information, legal or otherwise.

The P2P community's interest in anonymous P2P has increased rapidly in recent years for many reasons, including distrust of government (especially in undemocratic regimes), and digital imprimatur. Such a network may also appeal to those wishing to share copyrighted files illegally - organizations such as the Recording Industry Association of America have successfully tracked and threatened to sue users on non-anonymous P2P networks.

I hope it is possible to discuss this here as in the place "Where File Sharers Meet" LOL Slyck.com it is not possible. They only discuss Bit Torrent and Usenet there!

as someone who has gotten caught, and is looking into the routing methods becoming popular through things like tor. It's nice to see the future being more anonymous.
