http://www.qnext.com/ comes to mind. I tried it when it first came out. It was cool and it WAS free! I don't know about now. You can try it for yourself.

again, i recomend hamachi for such instances.
Here's Britney Spears' private jet... The gulf stream 3 doesn't even have a remote control for its surround sound DVD system. Still think downloading music for free isn't a big deal?

Hamachi is the only one that mentions encryption, with higher bit than WASTE.

    You could try Dargens.

You don't need to log in just go to website ( http://www.itsdargens.com/ ) and create a swarm.

Select private (radio button) in the swarm create form.

It will then create a swarm page.

Make a copy and paste this address and email it to your friends.

To launch the client go to swarm page and click the start link.

This will launch an open source java application called ANts p2p.

You will only connect to your friends.

Have a go or try the alpha test ( http://kerjodando.blogspot.com/2007/...work-file.html ).

    Feed back would be appreciated.

its not even that. its a Virtual private network program. basically, anyone you know running it can be on a "LAN" with all the normal benefits of a lan. ive been using it for file transfering and even gaming. for some games its a great workaround for internet play. you know how some games dont care if their CD keys work over a lan, but if you do internet play it talks to a server? well hamachi fixes that.

I second that. As long as youre using it with friends.

Wow thanks for all the info! We had looked at waste but it might be a little complex for a few of the people and i hate being a tech guy for people on a phone. Freenet looked like you had to have three people on to work so that didnt seem to good. now i got a few more to look into

WASTE is a classic, but good application for that use.

But there are also new programs like Retroshare that look promising.

HFS is very good to keep it simple and to start off without difficulties.
However the transfers always go through your computer, you are the server.
And it's not really a F2F network, it's a hosting solution for that use.
