    How about Linux

    Well there is also Linux.

I been planning in playing with Linux for awhile but have not gotten around to it.

Does anyone have any recommendations for which Linux to start with?

You can try the following site to download various linux distributions.

    http://www.linuxcd.org

Click on the distribution you like, then select view item.

i tried mandrake linux a couple months ago. i really liked it, BUT it is nest to impossible (for me) to install somthing. you need to use a command line.... ehh... im actually semi-afraid of the command line. i grew up with a nice GUI. i NEED it.

    are you sure?

what are you talking about. Linux is freeware, open source and downloads are completely legal and even encouraged.

Linux is the only real competition Micro$oft has.

    Shocking isn't it!!!!! LOL

Rickio: Try this version......it's a lot easier to get into Linux this way.....I started with Redhat....and GRRRR the damn ATI drivers for my video card....killed my install and I said the hell with it for awhile....but it's all good now....

    http://www.winlinux.net/2003/download2.html

    Download speeds are pretty good....
Make sure your online when you install it since they ask you to reg. before it installs.....just give a phoney email address.

    The link to the program?

    http://jungle.metalab.unc.edu/pub/Li...reeVersion.exe
    Or
    http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/...reeVersion.exe

Right click > Save Target As or Save Link Target As in Mozilla.

Enjoy! Don't forget to stay online when you start setting it up - it'll just exit if your not connected - give a fake email addy and whatever else and your done. Also if it refuses to boot to linux try removing your videocard - it doesn't support most cards on it's own...you need to surf around to find a driver for whatever card you have (if someones coded one) I know theres a decent ATI one floating around so do a google search.
