Hmmm...the last time i heard from Morpheus was something about a version 2 coming out in 2 weeks time...that was 1 and a hlaf months ago.....................what's wrong morpheus?!
Even the Morpheus chat opers have given up on morpheus. Users ask us "when is m2 coming out?"...we say "3rd day before never." We have made our own Streamcast-independent irc network and are directing confused Morpheus users to kazaalite and xolox, both which will connect to our irc servers. Many months ago, I saw a beta for m2. It looked very very nifty. However, we have come to the conclusion that Streamcast is a greedy, un-user friendly corporation and that m2 is probably never coming out. Even if it did, is it worth it now that Streamcast has shown its true colors? Not once did they bother to ask the users what they would like to see in a p2p (at least not after the good CEO left and was replaced by the current bastard). They are ungrateful and do not recognize the contributions of chat volunteers or the blind loyalty of their users. They squandered it, imho, and should be abandoned based on that fact alone. The new Xolox team has already shown us that they are responsive to user needs as well as suggestions for improvement. Xolox gets my vote as one of the better run organizations as well as the most user friendly.

I think I would not be wrong in saying that "Morpheus" was never anything at all. It was simply a brand name under which to package off-the-shelf client technology, perhaps with some very minor tweaks.
Look at what happened when they god kicked out of FT because of unpaid licence fees: Two days later they has popped their logo on Gnucleus and bang, "Morpheus Preview Edition."
So let's not go on about poor old Morpheus. It was a great client, but it's real name was Kazaa, or gnucleus, or whatever. It was never a name associated with breakthrough technology or innovation. It was just a sticker to slap on pre-existing software.
Might as well call morpheus what it really was...a giant leap in filesharing technology, but unstable, a RAM hog, and sometimes it had technical problems that you wouldn't even believe the effort it took to troubleshoot. We can't expect anything to be great on the first try, but I agree that Morpheus/Kazaa had a good thing in FastTrack. It just needs some advancement. In the digital age, being satisfied with your product means being run over, but kazaa seems like its resting on its laurels (even taking advantage of its new position as #1) by announcing the subscription plan and such.
I liked the original morpheus, b/c there was nothing better in terms of ease of use, but it was by no means a "great" program. Hopefully the development community will learn from user feedback what would have made Morpheus even better. Streamcast sure never cared.

What i heard is that Morpheus will begin charging their users. BAD idea, i'm not paying for anything, and it pretty much goes for everyone. That's why we share!!!
The other thing is that there are already too much competition with gnutella clients, so if Morpheus doesn't come up with a very unique feature, or a nice, cool interface, spy-free, faster d/l etc...

We can only hope. The whole idea of FastTrack stinks, due to its unfortunate corporate foundation. As long as programmers of clients for the protocol need to pay licence fees, the system's destined to either self-destruct or become a niche market.
Either way, Gnutella will prevail.

In the short-run FT is going nowhere. It is not about to "self-destruct " due to its closed protocol. FT is a mass market product that is showing no signs of going into a "niche market" either.
As long as programmers of clients for the protocol need to pay licence fees, the system's destined to either self-destruct or become a niche market.
Will the closed protocol of FT lead to it been forced to kill itself in the very long run? Possibly but I don't think that is how FT will end.

If they want money for files they should set up some servers and ask money for the usage of them but not for the bandwidth I PAY!
