    Hola

The only way your're going to get better instructions for a reinstall would be if I detailed them myself, which isnt going to happen.

    Read these thoroughly

    http://www.theeldergeek.com/xp_home_..._-_graphic.htm

    http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

    http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase...p_sg_clean.asp

I suggest you print out at least one of these and highlight the major steps in advance.

Also - if you have Favorites etc that you want to keep, save them off to somewhere.

Fantastic help , thanks Krell! ......still i am using a copied version of XP and these sites are great but they guide thru and dont tell you what to look out for if you have a copied version.I have average computer knowledge and need help.
What do i have to look out for (my IP address etc?? ) when i put XP on without "ringing bells"?
Can I be tracked if i have a dodgy copy?
How do i put service packs 1 and 2 on?
Once again thanks for any help!!

No matter what you do during install, once you install SP2 you will have to make it legal again.

I wouldnt install XP unless it already comes with SP2. A no activation copy would be best but there are work-arounds if you need to activate.

Be sure to install a firewall such as Sygate Pro.

Also, you dont need the Windows update site, or the Genuine Advantage BS, just use the Autopatcher.

    http://www.autopatcher.com/

It also has some nifty add-ons.

Is it not possible to fully update using http://windowsupdate.62nds.com/whyuse.php without ever having to validate your copy? And as long as you don't install WGA and attempt to validate you shouldn't get the nag, right? I not positive about this, as I have all legal versions these days. I seem to recall reading about this somewhere though.

Installed SP2 on a friends system when it 1st cameout...about 3 weeks later it started wanting to validate...we never did it & it locked up. Had to re-format to get it working again...but like I said, that was when SP2 1st cameout.
