I was wondering what all of the "old guard" that has been using newsgroups since it first began now think of the attention newsgroups in general are getting with programs that are easy to use like Grabbit and services like newzbin that makes getting files from usenet as easy as it possibly can be?
Do you think it will hurt or help usenet? What are your feelings about this?
Usenet hasn't changed much since it started. It's just that a few more applications came on the scene.
Usenet is about the same as it's always been, quiet and out of sight when compared to peer networks.
Changes of note are the dutch fucking things up with their posts not including .nfo's, the assholes who think you want to join their channel to learn wtf their files are and the new dickheads of late who are encrypting files which is clearly against most binary group charters.

Yeah that encryption part I don't agree with. Newsgroups have always had content freely available, but it seems that some people are wanting to try to make them more like private torrent sites....though I can't understand why.
Torrents and headers or even NZB files are totally different from each other and have different requirements for using them. To encrypt the files on a newsgroup seems absurd.
Funny you guys mention this encryption and I downloaded a file and someone put a password on it.
Yes I have seen some changes like this with people acting like this is some private sector thing when Usenet is PUBLIC DOMAIN.
You know every hardcore Usenet Junkie should report posts like this so people start to know not to do this, and it becomes the Norm with Usenet that you don't do this, it's not acceptable, you don't own it or have it as your own.
Ahh I found these groups:
news.admin.net-abuse.usenet
news.admin.net-abuse.sightings
news.admin.net-abuse.policy
news.admin.net-abuse.misc
Not sure these groups deal with these types of issues but they seem like a good area to start with.
Yes things are going to keep getting worse and its all the fault of the fanboys. The more attention you draw the worse things get.
Newsgroups have changed alot. I remember when getting pics was a big deal, then the Simpsons came along. No one ever thought anyone would trade video on newsgroups. Its only a matter of time before groups get cracked down on or turn into Kazaa.
Hard as ever and here to make you people believe...as long as there is one person to hold hope and dream...A GOD...will never die!
Things are changing, but Kazaa, LOL I don't think it's going to get that far.
usenet rulessssssssssssssssss
after i bought hte subscription there is what i download from
Yes not putting nfo's is annoying, of course if they are just putting an avi in a zero compressed split rar I can always download and rename the first part to find out many of the details usually in PAR, but that's not the point!
There seem to be some posters (or their ISP's) doing a lot of malformed subject lines too
Yeah,I have noticed a LOT of subject lines that are not saying what the whole file is...it is kind of cut off on some files.
Well the major change really is the retention rate on most premium servers. Up to 100 days now on Giganews. I remember back in the days when 14 days was a lot.
Usenet does NOT exist...
SSsssshhhhhhhh....... >:}
