My dl speed on uTorrent usually very slow. Sometimes it will get up to about 35-45 kB/s(almost never) but then it will drop again soon after.
uTorrent tells me that the port is not open. I followed the instructions on portforward.com but the test from uTorrent still says that the port is blocked. There is also a red circle at the bottom (not yellow warning triangle) that says 'not connectable'.What can I do?
I am running Windows XP SP2, I'm using a Westell Versalink router
I tried setting up port forwarding on the router. I also tried deactivating the firewall on the router and exiting SpySweeper and Trend Micro. I'm not using Windows Firewall.
Krell had posted where ISPs that are blocking Torrent traffics, go see if your ISP has something to do with this!

I don't know if it's my ISP, Verizon's not on the list.
Anyway, if anyone else has a tip for boosting speed it would be appreciated, thanks.
Have you tried changing the port and unchecking the use random port option in utorrent?
This is from Sekoyens Blog, I would recommend these option settings:
I have tested many settings and bittorent software but this is the best I could get for maximum download speed.
* Enable Upnp port mapping (checked)
* Add utorrent to Windows Firewall exceptions (checked)
* Global maximum upload rate (30) kB/s
* Alternate upload (35) kB/s
* Global maximum number of connections: 150
* Maximum number of connected peers per torrent: 50
* Number of upload slots per torrent: 4
* Use additional upload slots if upload speed
* Maximum number of active torrent: 3
* Maximum number of active downloads: 2
* Enable DHT network (unchecked)
* Enable DHT for new torrent (unchecked)
* Enable Peer Exchange (checked)
* Enable scrapping (checked)
* Pre-allocate all files (unchecked)
* Seed ration: 150%
Thanks for trying guys.
I found a windows SP2 patch that changes the maximum allowed TCP connections atone time. SP2 apparently changes the limit to 10 and with this patch you make your own limit.

Helped me, speeds now up to 70-85 kB/s.
that was going to be my next suggestion, also got DSL reports and use their tweaking software. Another good program to get is XP SMOKED
