So what are the best speeds you have come up with?

I was wondering what speeds you are getting on your different connections on Usenet? What client are you using to access usenet? What service are you using and is it unlimited, block account, etc.?

What are the settings on your particular client?

I have Newsleecher 3.0 with supersearch enabled as well as Gioganews unlimited with encryption. I have 20 bots enabled and though a lot of people say I really don't need that many, I have seen a decent speed with it, so I leave it on.

I get around 650 KB/s....not the greatest in the world, but I am happy with it.

Heck, I am happy I live in a city that even has broadband period! I still remember my 56k roots.

I use Giganews and I max out the connection at 8 megs, newsleecher stays at about 1,004 to 1,017 KB/s. It doesn’t slow down even during peak hours which is nice but a lot of that depends on your ISP. Fortunately you can throttle Newsleecher to use the web as your download pipe is saturated otherwise. %75 throttle still gives you 768 KB/s which still leaves plenty of bandwidth for other activities. Oh and yes it's unlimited. Who the hell uses limited accounts anyways.

I use the Grabit Client, and Newshosting.com with 8 connects on a 6mbps line at 600K down.

    All is good here. :icon_sunn

20 bots? I think you mean streams. Anyways, more streams = more cpu usage, 4 is all I use and I've never seen my connection drop bellow 1,000 KB/s for more then a second or two.

Additional streams are only useful if running several computers over the same network router IP address or for extremely high bandwidth connections like T3’s or Verizon fios. Try using 6 connections you might see your speed actually increase.

I only get around 1000 Kbps, but I'm using my ISP's news server. It's fast enough for me and it's free. :)

That's great! I have to pay freakin' 80 BUCKS if I want to upgrade my cable internet account! I am already paying 50 bucks a month for that and Giganews is extra...so it will be awhile before I ever use their upgrade plan.

I pay $20 for a 3MB connection.. Thinking of upgrading since I only pull about 250 down on avg... May have something to do with my config though.

LOL! I feel the exact same way! I very RARELY go to a torrent site anymore...even a decent one like torrentleech which I am a member of.

I do visit some occasionally, but it is mainly to keep my account open in case there is some file on the private site I want. But now 95% of my files come from newsgroups and I haven't looked back.

Oh, and I did the exact same thing today that you did, went to one of my torrent sites and tried to download a fle....it crawled at a snails pace....so I went and found the same thing on usenet and got it in a few minutes!
