Burning no lower then 6X HELP!

My burner: LiteOn SHW-160P6S 16x16 DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive

Anyone know why with this burner I can't burn a disc CD or DVD any lower then 6x? Is there a way to fix this so I can burn at 1-4X? Is an update requiered?

I use Nero 6&7, CopyToDVD

r u using +R media? I believe they start at 6X.

If not, perhaps you need a firmware update??

Have u tried googling to see if anyone else has had this problem?

For real. There is no need to slow down burners anymore. They all use buffer underburn or under run that will pause if the speed is going too fast. Always keep your burner set at its highest speed. This isn't 1998, you don't have to worry about it while you wait an hour for the burn. I run all kinds of shit while burning my discs and they always burn just fine. Unless youre using a 8 years old burner and software (which I know youre not!) forget about slowing it down, its pointless.


If youre having some kind of problem with your burns try a different brand of media. Ive bought several batches of bad discs from different brands and drove myself crazy trying to figure why my PC was fucking up only to finally find out the media was shite. Shite media discs, (whole spindals) are more common than you may think. IF you see a cheap sale, BEWARE!

Oh yes I have been sing R+ should I use R-? Is there a quality difference?

No real quality difference. Some systems like one more than the other for some reason. My Burner is supposed to like both but for some reason it seems to like R+ better. The thing is some stand alone DVD players will only play one or the other but that too is not much of a problem anymore.

I just bought a new DVD player for $38 that plays just about everything. I needed something that played pal format as a lot of the movies I d/l are from Europe.It's also nice to be able to burn and play mpegs without encoding for hours. I use to always buy -R media, but now, I just buy what's on sale.

I usually buy -R if possible, only because for some reason I'm not telling so you can google it, they hold a cunt hairs more data than +R.

I have more than once ran into a DVD rip that would not fit on a +R but barely squeezed onto a -R.

No major problems but I know for a fact it's better to burn DVD and audio CDs at low speeds to cut down on errors in the video and/or music.

Also I have noticed that the DVDs I burn will play just fine being burnt at 6x on my stand alone HQ player, but if I go try to play it in a friend's cheaper DVD player the video freezes ever few seconds with an error. This is why I think it's best to burn at a slower speed.
