Talking Zune and Vista 'not compatible'

Zune, the new digital music player from Microsoft, is not compatible with the software giant's new Vista operating system.

Buried in the Zune website, Microsoft admits that the player is not compatible with Vista and gives no information as to when it will introduce a patch or update enabling the player to do so.

Instead, users are asked to "check back soon for updates".

the bit i find amusing is that this means it wont be a removable device(mass storage), doesnt it ?

read the rest u will notice they are planning a patch

its just not very good planning on microsofts part

that and the fact that all the music bought from msn music store wont work on it either (so ppl will have to re-buy all their songs again if they want to stay legal)

    silly buggers

that is just plain silly. It's not like they didn't know this OS was coming. And the music from their store isn't compatible. I don't even know what to say. sounds really unfair to those who are legit. They aren't making it easy, are they?

It'll prolly be fixed by the time the first Vista unit ships.

It's probably just not compatible with the beta Vista versions out there.

    Funny anyway tho!

The Zune feels very solid in your hands, the menu is easy to manuever without reading any directions whatsoever.

The plastic on the cover is easily scratched, I suggested they either put a raised surface around the edge of the screen and controls, or use a thin glass like my Samsung phone has. I also told them I would like to see a SDRAM slot for easy on the fly transfer of media to my phone.

All of this type devices are shipped with with firmware and software that are deemed production worthy, and ALL have updates down the road. If you cant get to market for the Thanksgiving Black Friday and Xmas, then your screwed. Updates will happen just like the Automatic Updates for Windows.

Since MS is still recoding VISTA until launch to reduce the amount of SP releases and patches, it is reasonable for the MGS group to wait on OS dev to finalize before pushing patches. This is just business folks, any company will have this problem with integration with platforms this size.

I highly suspect that the Windows Rights Management Services and the version of DRM included with VISTA will have a lot to do with the code that gets released for ZUNE.
