I can't connect and when I tried to install the MXPIE patch it says Error Windows System directory no hosts file found. Can anyone help me on this? Thanks
You can create a new one or d/l one from the net. I googled this one that has a few ads and banners blocked. http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htmOriginally Posted by thecrip
It goes in C:\windows\ system32\ drivers\ etc

Thanks. I got connected againOriginally Posted by RACKnRAIL
Since I installed the hosts file package from http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm, it takes me a pretty long time to get connected and my downloads aren't happening and I have very few uploads. Was there something in this package that is blocking my downloads and uploads? Is there a way to check on the connections and do I have to edit something or change some settings somewhere? Thanks.
Most likely it's your settings, don't open too many upload slots & keep upload to 75% to 80% of your total upload limit. Plus, unless you've above average broadband connection don't become one of the server for others!
You can go into the hosts file by opening it with notepad and manipulate what it blocks. I believe that one you d/l just blocks ads and banners though.
Protest long enough that you are right, and you will be wrong
Make or download a blank host file.
Try your app with the blank one, and check performance and operability. If evrything is fine with blank, but not with the one you DL, then something in the host file is blocking an ip or range that you need, OR the host file is just too friggen large.
.
nice to see youre still alive krell!

There is also a service I believe you can disable to increase performance with a large hosts file.
To be honest, I've never found any good to one of those massive hosts files. Just edit it in notepad, delete all the crap in it, and save without an extention.
