In another case of consumer rip-offs, Humphrey Cheung is reporting that Sony will not be including an HDMI cable with the Sony PS3 and cites Sony’s own website as the source. Cheung points out that Best Buy offers HDMI cables for $60 to $200 which is a bit of a nasty surprise for shoppers. Note that a quick search on the internet will yield lesser-name online vendors that offer $13 6′ HDMI cables though you’ll probably still have to pay at least $10 for shipping and handling.
In my experience, this is only where the nightmare begins. I have a Toshiba 72" DLP HDTV capable of displaying 1080p (or that’s what it’s advertised as), the only catch is that the HDMI interface on it (as with most HDTVs on the market) only supports 1080i. Apparently, you would have to have a 29-pin HDMI 1.2a type B connector or an HDMI 1.3 connector to be able to support 1080p. Most of the HDTVs on the market use the older 19-pin connectors and this kind of information isn’t obvious. DVI which is several years old has always supported very high resolutions at progressive scan, so it’s frustrating that they electronics industry is shoving this stuff (to keep it civilized) on the consumer which highly technical people have a hard time understanding.
If I want to view 1080p, I would need some kind of proprietary IEEE 1394 firewire device that is supported by the onboard embedded computer in the HDTV. When I plugged in my Sony HDR-HC1, the Toshiba recognized the device but told me it wasn’t supported so I’m forced to go back to analog RGB component inputs and standard RCA for the audio. That’s a total of 5 cables on each end I have to plug in and I know people who are even scared of plugging in a single cable.

17 USC § 1008 Prohibition on certain infringement actions:
No action may be brought under this title alleging infringement of copyright based on the noncommercial use by a consumer for making digital musical or analog musical recordings.
Well, this won't matter since I will not get anything until their war between HD-DVD & Blue-Ray HD standards are settled anyway! XBox 360 with HD-DVD or PS3 with Blue-Ray HD, who cares? Betting on any standard, cost just too much even for juat a consumer like me!
universal recently dropped the blu-ray format so im going to guess and say that hd-dvd will win the format war. yay.

like honestly, who does that?!?!
Screw both formats. They need to look at better compression and stop trying to push stupid products on us. Now that Divx is a publicly traded company Im hoping Hi Def avi will start to make its way to market. Its so silly not to use better software. They only want people to buy high priced hardware so they can sell us the movies we already own again. I don't think most people care to upgrade from the DVD players they now own. I sure don't. Its somewhat tantalizing to think about more storage for my bootlegs on my PC but hell, I don't even buy dual layer DVDs because they cost too much. I know a flop when I see it and Blu Ray is it. I laugh at anyone who thinks they need one.
Oh yah, back to the topic. Screw Sony too. Another stupid piece of hardware. Perhaps the biggest blunder EVER in the history of electronics. Sega has to thinking "THANK THE LAWD! SOME ONE FUCKED UP BIGGER THAN WE DID! Maybe everyone will forget about Dreamcube"

Sucks that blu-ray support is already waning... the PS3 at $600 is 400 less than a blu-ray player currently... which is a decent selling point for the system.
However, if you are losing library oppurtunity, then... well... screw it.

A very cheap defective Blu Ray by all reports. Sony is expected to take 5 years to turn a profit on this thing. Thats far to long in the video game world. Its now been dleayed again for the UK people and the core Japan videogame players balk at the PS3. Sony stock is in the dumpster. Nintendo launching at the same time as PS3 and perhaps a 360 price drop is gonna crush the giant. This is not looking good for Sony at all. 5 million 360s sold is amazing. I would like to say I told you so to everyone but I think I just did. Nah Nah na na nah nah!

I think MS has done it pretty good with HD gaming so far. You get HD output and you can use component cables to hook it up with the 360.
As far as HD movies I just have a nice selection of HD cable channels. With HBOHD, ESPND, and all the network channels in HD I'm set for now. No need for hi-def DVD player and $30 movies... especially when one doesn't buy any movies anyway.
Let the rich decide, us poor folks wont migrate to anything too intense.
first hd divx players come out and affordable media i might buy
otherwise im good with dvds
.
The xbox360 is supposed to upconvert to 1080p once they release the hd-dvd add-on. If im not mistaken the addon plus a xbox360 is still cheaper the the blueray.

Aint there a player that can play blu-ray & Hd-dvd im sure iv seen that..... may of been a strange dream though
And with the ps3 getting a price cut its gunna be the shit i carnt wait till it comes out!
Okay, Kitty Kat. This feels "borderline" inappropriate
"Band of Brothers"... you should rent it sometime
Vince Vaughn
Ps3 is only getting a price cut in japan so your out of luck, im amazed at how much missinformation there is about the ps3. This is like the 3rd person I see posting about ps3 price cut, which is non existant in north america. People also seem to think that it will be vastly superior to the 360 when they are virtually the same.

i just got in the HD dvds for army of darkness. but the cool thing about them (other than bruce cambel) is that the flipside is a standard DVD. its things like this that are going to make HD win

Go to monoprice.com... 6ft HDMI 1.3A cables for $4. They are digital cables, so being cheap doesn't really matter. Stock up on some other cables while you are there... Quick and cheap.
