Strange Azureus NAT error on new computer

Hi guys

First of all i know i know - another NAT error receiver here. I bet you guys get this an awful lot but i normally have little problems with Azureus and if anything goes wrong i generally know how to fix it.

Anyway - got a new computer the other day and loaded Azureus onto it. Done my usual port forward (Belkin Router) and allowed through my firewall (sygate) but for some reason i keep getting NAT error on my new machine. Smilies always stay at yellow and get very little (if any) from public sites like torrentspy, mininova etc but when downloading from one of my private sites i get virtually the full download speed which is great but hardly any upload which is what i need.

Its definately not a router issue i don't think as i tested it out on my old comp using the same port number and smilies are green and NAT test comes back OK - whereas on my new computer the NAT test always comes back with NAT error.

Tried it with my firewall completely turned off as well and still no joy.

So what could it be on my new computer that isn't affecting my old with all the same settings on the router / Azureus / firewall on my new computer.

I'm really at my wits end with this problem guys and would be ever grateful should someone help me get this sorted.

Did u change ISPs? Some ISPs for whatever reason cause that NAT error.....there's a list somewhere, will try to find. In the meantime try changing the listening port.

Tried changing the port a number of times but get the same NAT error time and time again.

Just tried another client (Utorrent) and seems to be the same sort of issue with that as well. What could it be i wonder ...

like i say, i have the exact same setup on my laptop and when i change the port forward on my router to work on my laptop its fine - NAT ... ok! - according to the test

have you set a different port number for each computer?
ie:
192.168.0.110 port 52550 (desktop)
192.168.0.111 port 52551 (laptop)

if you aren't using different port numbers for both computers, one of them will never be forwarded properly.

Some private sites have details rather or not your connectible, does it say anything on there about the torrents your downloading or seeding? How many ports did you open up, and your not using any other firewall?

anyway - no, i am not using a different port number. reason being is that i'm not using my laptop anymore so all i did was change the ip address in the virtual servers section on my router to forward onto my new desktop's IP.

I've only opened up the one port so far - the one i have been using fine for a number of months on my old laptop. Definately no other firewalls - was a clean install of XP SP2 and the only firewall i have installed is Sygate andwindows firewall is off

Just tried downloading from one of my private sites - again i seem to get the full download speed but still yellow smilies and on the site it says "Connectable: No" and down the bottom of Azureus is says Firewalled where the "NAT ok" is supposed to be!

Any more ideas guys ?

Hi

(to be applied to Windows XP SP2)

Anyone who still has that 'Yellow Smiley' and NAT problem in Azureus... i think i might have the solution.
I tried on my computer, and now, aparently everything works fine. I have Green Smileys, as i was supposed to.

Anyway, i'll show you how i did.

1. First of all, if you have some kind of firewall protection, you dont need to de-activate it, just need to tell the fw program which file
you want to permit the in/outbound traffic, nothing else. (i.e.: i use Norton Internet Security 2003, and i simply configured: azureus.exe "permit all").


2. Check if you have the "Exception" entered on your windows XP fw configuration for Azureus's Ports: 6881 and 6889 TCP/UDP in case you use windows XP fw.


3. and, after these 2 steps are checked, i did one more thing: Go to your network connections and Right-Click on your Internet Connection and choose properties.
After that, go to the "Advanced" Tab and under "Internet Connection Sharing" click the settings button. Now, you will probably see some services and port configured for Azureus as well. Do not delete them. Simple add these services configs:

(Oh... one more thing. The machine i have directly connected to the internet, with Azureus running, has the following ip: 192.168.0.1 obviously.
So, your should CHANGE the ip option and redirect it to YOUR OWN machine's IP.)

Click "Add..." button and fill with this:

"Description of the service:"
Call it whatever you want... (i called this first "Azureus TCP 6881")

"Name or IP address ..."
192.168.0.1 (my computer´s IP wich Azureus is running on)

"External Port Number for this service:"
6881 oTCP

"Internal Port number for this service:"
6881


Just repeat this step using these configurations:
6881 - UDP, 6889 - TCP and 6889 - UDP.

4. Stop your downloads, restart Azureus and run the wizard port test. You will probably get "Ok" at the test, and have the green smileys.


Im not sure if this will work in any of your own configurations and operating systems whatsoever.
Since it worked for me, i thought it might be usefull to share it with some of you.

Even if you don't have a router and are not sharing a connect you still need to foward your ports on your cable or DSL modem.
