edonkey client is being shutdown tonight.

it's been reported by multiple users.
That the edonkey client now refuses to start.
It dialog opens saying that the network has been shut down.
If you click the OK button on that dialog your edonkey client then tries to uninstall itself.

This is not a hack. This self-destruct message is coming from the edonkey server themselves.

it's a http message being sent to your client in the opening web page.
The work around is to disconnect your network connection.
start edonkey. Let it fail to connect then reconnect your network.

There are very few users who are on the network right now because if they were foolish enough
to click the OK to uninstall button there edonkye client is gone.

the edonkey forms are also down and there are no message on the main page regarding this shutdown.

Yep, I had to fire up emule to make sure it was all good. Seemed to be working fine and dandy.

so a simple workaround would be to add an entry into your HOSTS file:

the entire network is slow

but damn u can get some rare stuff if ur patient

its my last resort after usenet and bittorrent fail me and it has never failed me (its just bloody slow)

All i use is emule sure it can be slow but i get everything i want and i am not in any big hurry, i like to fly below the radar as much as possible.

You can keep the official client and block their site, or maybe get Edonkey Lite. Since MetaMachine is co-operating with the authorities, some might prefer a clean version. It doesn't seem to have any spyware.

Of course just cause the program cant be used don't mean the network can be shut down it is a true p2p software.

Why some halfwit would use either one of those is beyond me. I guess everyone needs to migrate. They had it shut down, what chances are there that their not combing the network logging ip addresses who is sharing. Private BT is just around the corner.

its also being reported that bearshare,grokster limewire,soulseek,warez and winmx are all about to go off-line also.I don't know about the others but winmx would be a tradgedy and I'm hoping that the fight that was put up previously has made this an impossibility.MX is still working as I type this...keeping my fingers crossed.Bittorrent is o.k but i like all the odd stuff i find on MX.
