Cell Phone in Theater Could Get You Arrested??

It's pretty dumb to try and actually tape a movie in the theater, to me, but how stupid it is to try and bootleg something with your *cell phone*??! especially since there's practically NO way you wouldn't get busted for trying to do that. jail =sucks.

"Sometimes before advance screenings, security guards will confiscate camera phones for the duration of the movie in order to prevent piracy."

I knew there was a reason I didn't like to go to the theater. I very rarely go now, maybe once a year, but if they tried to take my phone (which I turn off during a movie) that would be the end of that. It boggles my mind that they think they have the right to check to see if you have one. Does this mean that they think they can do a search and seizure before a screening? Bye-Bye movie sales.

Well, I wonder if it's something like.... thinking ahead to when there will be more technologically advanced phones that theoretically could video tape in better quality or something. Maybe. The MPAA could just be planning ahead on that part.

And, I still can't get past the incredible stupidity it would take for someone to try to do that in the first place.

I agree, it is pretty dumb for people to try to do it. I (somewhat) understand the MPAA trying to cover their butt, but what really sticks out to me is how far these people will try to go to cover their butt. Technology will just keep on getting better... they already have spy devices that can be worn as buttons on your shirt, etc., if someone really wants to go the distance to get the movie, I don't see how they are going to stop it in a public place.

I think it's smart of them though - the guy videotaping the movie with his phone will directly cut into their ticket sales by immediately turning around and selling bootlegs on the corner, if he just gets to come in and tape it with his phone. It makes sense to me, in that regard.

But, wow, I'd be superscared of whatever the penalty would be for you if you were *caught* doing that. eeeeek. I bet the fine would be humongous. That's what would make ME not do it, you know? Like, it's not worth it, for that.
