Innovative music player — not an iPod!

iRiver's ‘clix’ handles music, video, photos, games, FM with aplomb

"iPod" has become a generic name for all portable music devices — just like Walkman was a generation ago. When people lust after a music player, they rarely say they want to buy a MP3 player or say they want something to hold their WMA, OGG or WAV files. They usually just go out and buy an iPod.

But there are a brave few people who search out and devices that won’t use Apple’s AAC compression or the iTunes Music Store.

If you’re in that camp, I’ve been testing a terrific little player you should know about. iRiver calls it the clix.

I hate Sonys restrictions more that Apples. And Creative seem to be creeping behind in the "piss you off" department.

The reviewer said he could fit 200 songs (at 96kbs wma) on the 2 gig memory. Something doesn't add up there, thats nearly 10 meg a song for a 96kbs wma track. wtf?!

It looks nice though, I must admit.

They could be guns and roses tracks with 17 min guitar solos in the middle every song

    ..... possibly
Okay, Kitty Kat. This feels "borderline" inappropriate

Perhaps there are dedicated partitions of memory for all of the games/music/videos ect.

200 songs at 96Kbps? Jasus I wouldn't listen to one at that bitrate, the noise would drive me mad. And WMA!

You could fit at least 200 V0 lame rips (APX -new) almost perfectly on 2 gigs. Mind you for listening on headphones V2 (APS) is probably good enough.

I must agree with the majority of everyone else on this thread, it sounds like another rip off to me. When will an ideal handheld mp3 player hit the market?

    since when?

    and also

I thought WMA/96 would be an acceptable compromise between sound quality and storage space
and I think you only found out that a mp3 was10 miniutes before you reviewed this player :/

I had a Iriver for a month and it was plagged with battery problems and a button stopped working, returned and the new one didnt even work out of the box so I said screw it and tried a rio also broke within a month. So after all that I just didnt bother with a music player and listened to the good old fm radio.
