Thumbs down Shareaza - Eating Up My HD

Hey guys I'm brand new here, and I would really appreciate help on this issue. Last night I queued up a few gigs worth of video in Shareaza and I left my computer on all night. I only had like 2 gigs free on my hardrive, so I plugged my external hardrive in and I went to the Shareaza settings (Tools > Shareaza Settings > Internet > Downloads ...to be specific) and I changed "Save Complete Files Here:" and "Store Temporay Incomplete Files Here:" to two folders on my external hardrive. I didn't close and re-start Shareaza. This morning when I woke up, the videos had made some progress, but none had completed, and I only had like 20 megabytes left on my computer. The next thing I did was close out of Shareaza and open it up again, and once I did that, I magically had 646 MB on my harddtive. Literally - as soon as I closed out and opened it back up again, Windows dispalyed a little bubble syaing that the HD issue had been taken care of...but what about my remaining 1.4 GB? Also, after that, all the downloads disappeared--the queue ("Transfers") was completely empty. This is so weird and I'm really confused. 1.4 gigabytes is being mysteriously used by Shareaza in some way. I guess I still have all that video....SOMEWHERE (minus the 600 MB or whatever that mysteriously freed up). PLEASE HELP!

This problem isn't so hard to explain. You had the right idea choosing to use an external harddrive for your temporary (incomplete) files and finished (completed) downloads with shareaza. Here is what went wrong...after you made these changes. The new changes won't go into effect until after you close and restart shareaza.

When you closed and reopened shareaza your downloads were missing from the transfer window because the location of your temporary files had changed. You had set it up to use a different folder. Shareaza won't automatically move files in your temporary or incomplete folder for you.

If you want to use a different folder on your external drive for your temporary or incomplete files with shareaza go ahead and make the changes in shareaza's settings for where you want the incomplete or temporary files to go in your case it would be a folder on your external harddrive.

Change the location where finished or completed downloads go...in your case a folder on your external harddrive. Now close shareaza. while shareaza is closed go into the old location where your temporary or incomplete files were stored and MOVE everything from there to the new temporary or incomplete folder located on your external harddrive.

Now when you reopen shareaza all your files should appear in the transfer window and resume with no problem.

If you don't know where your temporary or incomplete folder is right now...look at preferences or options (whatever its called in Shareaza) and find what folder is being used now for temporary or incomplete files...now that you know where they are right now...you will know where to go to after closing shareaza to move these files to the new location you want to use on your external harddrive.

    Hope this helps
