A Problem unique to your computer...
I have had Winmx 2.6 and 3.1 crash on me on numerous occasions, but the crashes were never linked to one specific activity or action that I carried out. As far as Winmx crashing when you send messages maybe you are sending messages to people that are offline and your computer or the program doesn't know what to do.
I know that's probably from left field just trying to figure out if it's anything other then a huge coincedence... I have yet to hear this from anyone on my hotlist or who have I talked to while sharing files.
As a side note, I always try to send messages to people I have downloaded from thanking them for the downloads and asking them if there is anything in particular they are looking for. (not everything is in my shared folder!) The thank you often makes file-sharing seem more like sharing and interaction and less like... ripping(?).
"Do or do not, there is no try!"

Is it that your messages are too long?
