XM Canada subscribers will soon face a rate of $14.99 Canadian ($13.19 US) per month, a change that represents a two-dollar increase over previous subscription levels. The change goes into effect September 1st. There is good news for those signing up before the new rates take effect, however—those subscribers will enjoy XM's current $12.99 Canadian ($11.43 US) rate through September, 2007. The increased price point will bring XM’s fees in line with those of competitor Sirius, which also sells monthly service at just under fifteen dollars.

Sirius, though, offers 110 channels as compared to XM’s 100. Nevertheless, XM President Steve Tapp feels the increase is justified in light of the service's "unique and exclusive programming; leading edge equipment...and extensive signal coverage." The news comes on the heels of XM Canada’s recently announced exclusive, multi-year in-dash partnership with Suzuki, which will feature XM radios as a factory- or dealer-installed option in 2007 model-year vehicles.
