Ok, Hi all,
i'm about to do away with my speed touch USB modem & get a wirless router as im going onto MaxDSL.
So, will I be likely to have problems with P2P using a router as they have a firewall etc, or is it just a question of setting the firewall in the router to allow programs to gain access like I do with the firewall in Norton Internet Security?
It's just that iv'e read some people have had problems with routers using P2P.
Any advice appreciatede.
Thanks.
First thing you should do, is read the manual that comes with the router to get you started! Then search the forum here to read guides available if you still having problems. When asking questions, give as much information as possible!
You shouldn't have much problems as long as you foward your ports in the router.
What A Twist!
you have to port forwed you p2p clinet to your roter
Ok, now installed my router. Have NOT forwarded any ports or anything, got the firewall set to "high".
Tried to download something in Azureus & having no problem it seems!
Is this normal as I havent forwarded any ports, I was expecting to have to do this??
BitTorrent will still work, woof, even if you don't forward ports at all, but you just won't connect to as many other peers as you would if you were forwarded.
I prefer to use 'port triggering' instead of forwarding. It's set up the same way as forwarding, but it's easier, because you don't have to set up a 'static IP' or change other settings on your router. With triggering, your port is forwarded as your torrent program requests it, and from any IP address that the router assigns to you.
Try triggering if you can, it's brilliant!
Do I need aditional software for port triggering?
You might only need a software (firmware) upgrade if your router is an older model.
When you log in to your router, it should have a section for port triggering, a link to click on, that says something like "Port forwarding/triggering".
Find out what your router's brand and model number is, then go to this site, look up the router you have:
http://www.portforward.com/english/r...outerindex.htm
In your torrent program, find out what port it wants to use for incoming connections, type that info into the page 'Enter Port Here', then get the result and copy it to your router.
or just chane you firewall set to 1/2 way that fix the problam to
and alow Azureus
