    rar extension

Hi, I'm new to this file sharing, so I', sorry if my questions are silly.

I've just dowloaded a file (with Bearshare) with a .rar extension, that is supposed to contain an audio. I try to extract the file with WinRAR and I get a data.cab and a setup.exe files.

    Questions are:

    - my virus scan warns me about a trojan horse. Is it the setup.exe file?

    - what is the data.cab file? No program can recognize it.

    - where is the audio?

    Thanks for any help

I would be very cautious. If your downloaded what you believe should have been a simple audio file, you should not see an executable file (.exe). An exe can be very dangerous to your system since clicking it allows it to begin or complete an installation that could really devistate your pc. data.cab files can be many things, but in how you describe your situation, probably refers to program data.

.cab files are defined as, Microsoft cabinet file (program files compressed for software distribution)

I would really advise you to delete the file and aquire your info in another way... esp if you are less than experienced.

    Good luck!

FYI Audio files ususally end with: AIF, AU, MID, MIDI, MP3, RA, RAM, RM, WAV

DELETE it. Audio files should be in the compression format listed, wav, mp3, flac, ogg, m4a, aac, and various others. But none should be a exe file or bat cab. Most music will never be in winrar unless people are uploading discographies. File sizes give away alot of detail too, 70-120megs are normal for good 192vbr.

Oh, man, I totally agree.... a .EXE file for an audio download? Delete super quickly and then run as fast u can........its usually a funky adware program that'll hijack yer browser and make all kinds of porn popups come up........................

Delete it! If it was an audio file it would have been compressed rar/zip etc. What you seem to have is a program, dont run it.
