    Lightbulb Liquid Body Armor

Turns out that the US is researching "liquid armor" for use in Iraq and law enforcement. For the full details, pictures and a movie or two check this out:

The materials would also remain light – only 20 percent heavier after treatment - and flexible, which means they could be used for much-needed protection of the limbs.
I'm not exactly sure how to respond to that part. I know it's hot out there, and the stuff they wear is pretty heavy already. But if it means that they'll be safer, I think it's worth it. Suffer a little to avoid suffering a lot, right?

This is only for the better, armor to keep troops safe will be a big plus though I dont think even that can protect them from explosives and mines.

Materials are constantly evolving and we are getting closer and closer to smart armor, in the future we may be able to do just that, defend against bomb blasts, so keep your eyes out.

I wont start a political thread, but i thought if we get the Bush administration out of office, it make all our troops safer.. without liquid armor.

    Or just bring them home.

But I agree, let's not get political. :)

So the troops of tomorrow will look like a big blue nighty night Care Bear.

I hate it when irony is ironic.

I agree with the Bush thing - but let's not talk about that for the sake of anybody else. Also, this liquid body armor should be relatively protective against mines. If you think about it - the products of an exploding mine consist of a supersonic shockwave, some shrapnel, and fire. This stuff is said to be protective against shrapnel, and I'm sure that if a shockwave is powerful enough to obliterate glass, it's strong enough to activate the armor. So, all the the "patient" has to worry about is the fire. Hmm... Surely, a tag on the armor saying "Keep away from open Flame" would pretty much make it useless against mines.

They should be working on force fields, thats the way to go. I'm currently buillding a force field generator in my basement. Soon I will rule the world! I just gotta find some dilithium crystals, when I do youre all dead! Long live mellie mels!

Hard as ever and here to make you people believe...as long as there is one person to hold hope and dream...A GOD...will never die!

Are you serious? What, is it like a magnetic forcefield? That's all I can imagine, aside from suspending anti-matter in a plasma using magnitism - if you end up using that idea, give me some credit - i took 10 seconds to think of it.
