    Arrow Wireless and random disconnections

Hello, I (I'm lurker btw!) have Belkin wireless router (F5D7230-4), with Addon USB adaptor (ADD-GWU180) for wireless connections on PC.

I use to use wired which worked fine, and it appeared to work fine with wireless too.
However I'm experiencing (sometimes lots of) random disconnection issues. I'm thinking it's either issue with router or Adaptor. Maybe it's a setting on router I didn't put right. I have tried changing "channel" but it didn't seem to help much.

When I get random disconnect sometimes it connects it self back but sometimes I have to disable/enable adaptor or take it out and plug it back.

My USB adaptor detects 2 (including mine) or 3 networks, and my PDA detects between 2-5.

Anyone have any ideas why my wireless internet decided to disconnect randomly? It's driving my crazy while playing online games and while downloading on p2p (My edonkey speed dies when I get DCed :( )

It appears I'm using latest "Firmware Version 4.05.03" using Belkin's update. (US version of webpage shows 4.05.03 for europe too). Also I can't find any newer driver for my adaptor on internet and on 2nd window I have tried using driver windows recommend rather then one that came with adaptor

Did you try changing the direction of your antenna facing or location?

Little problems liked this can happen with dodgy USB ports, try using a different port.

I tried changing angle and direction of antenna on router already. It's got two antenna so I have it on different direction / angle. However this doesn't seem to make difference.

Btw I get exellent or very good as signal but sometimes randomly it's low. Maybe this gives some clues ?

I'll try using different USB port. I'll use it for a day and see how it goes!

Thanks for replies, I hope this will solve this issue so I don't need to have ethernet cable covering house like spider's web and tripping people over!

    Robinzxp,

Right click on your network adapter in windows, choose "properties". Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click on "properties". Instead of using the default "Obtain an IP address automatically" choose "Use the following IP address" and assign it a static IP address in the range your router uses (192.168.2.xxx is the default IP range for Belkin, where the last 3 of the octet range from 100 on up). You will also need to assign a DNS server which can either be the same as the default gateway (the routers IP address, usually 192.168.2.1 for Belkin) or you can pull the actual dns server out of your routers configuration page. You will find that assigning your wireless adapter a static IP address will reduce lost connections *drastically*.

Thanks for that info, but I'm already using "Use the following IP address". Random disconnection seems to happen little during nights but during day it can constantly happen for 10-20 min somtimes. Maybe it's interference or something ?

Excellent idea. I've found that for some reason most random disconnects from wireless routers are solved by having the router assign static ip addresses rather than using DHCP.

Argh... by BT speed just died by random disconnect :(

Is it normal to get random disconnects on wireless?
Maybe it's bad router or adaptor ? I'm open to suggestions!
