Do you have any anti-virus programs installed?
Finish it off then come back for help. We do best when there's nothing to lose.computer nearly broken!!!!
edit - I think you're screwed but if you want to try system restore...

ccc1005 is right though. While I imagine you do have an AV installed, try running this before system restore:

i have got av avg free edition it always seems to work well until now obviously just finished scan and it says there nothing wrong strangely gonna restore now thanx probably saved me bacon!!
Hence, one reason I strongly reccomend *other* scanners than AVG.... AVG is a last resort scanner, imho.Originally Posted by liveforever

Unless you are the following people, I do not particularly wish to associate with you:
Krell, HelenaP, mountain_rage, mfgbypooter, Mels_Smileys45, excrement_cranium.
That's it for now. This list will be updated whenever I feel like it.
i would feel better if you found the offending devil and removed it, system restore is a two edge sword, it can create more problems during a virus/spyware issue by re-installing the threat,
still, i would d/l spybot and adaware (both free) and run them in safe mode, curious to see what pops up,
good luck
if it's gots tits or wheels, it's gonna give you problems. bigwilly949
I would try running a hard drive diagnostic program, you might be having hardware issues if the virus scan comes up clean. Do you notice any weird errors when trying to read files?
Active Smart: http://www.ariolic.com/activesmart/
I would run that and see what the SMART diagnosis of the drive is. Might show some problems there...
Also for virus scanners, Kaspersky is a very good program, if this was a virus I would give Kaspersky a try.
Try trend's free online scan:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Then Run adaware:

and Spybot:

CAPITAL punishment for infringement is a CAPITAList's dream.
Download the free version of BitDefender and scan your computer with it for viruses. This sounds like a virus.
I wonder what the 3 finger salute would show?
