Help! with Azureus

I'm fairly new with Azureus, so there are many things in which I have no idea about. Be kind, please :)

The problem is the download/upload speed. The past torrents I've downloaded all downloaded at about a total download speed of 140kB/s and an upload speed of 40 kB/s. I dont know whether that's normal or not, but I was quite pleased and satisfied with the two speeds. Recently, however, my download speed decreased drastically; and I mean drastically. I did not change a thing! I still have the port forwarding on, firewall off, etc etc; but the download speed is going at about 2kB/s with an upload speed of 45kB/s!!! What??

It might be the torrents themselves...but I've tried downloading the same torrents over again (from before when I had the 140kB/s speed), and no increase of download speed were to be seen. I dont know what is wrong, and I've just about read every single forum there is regarding problems with Azuerus, but nothing seems to help...

If anyone knows what is wrong, please please please reply =D

Did you by accident set a limit to your speeds?

Have you checked if you are downloading a popular torrent with a lot of seeds and peers if its not popular this tends to slow it down.
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Azureus to see if the problem persists on reinstall.

I would limit your upload speed a bit, i think about 15k is a good enough share. that might help you get some speed back.

sounds like maybe a nat error or a firewall issue. i believe there is a test in Az for this.

Do any of your downloads reach this speed?

I think you'll need to download plug-in for Azureus called "SafePeer". Your connections may be hammered by those Anti-piracy companies & individuals that send fakes or requests to just to interrupt your downloads & waste your bandwidth!

BTW, I wouldn't turn-off firewall if I were you, only open ports for the applications you're using. It's better to be safer, than been sorry later!

i think i know whats up with your azureus - or at least im having the same problem as you....

dont know if youve noticed, but piratebay went down about a week ago or so...about the same time you said you had a problem? well my azureus also has been downloading like shit lately too, and ive noticed that it was in fact something to do with piratebay...

im not sure exactly what, but i figured it must have been since piratebay went down, either people have been limiting their speeds a little more or something, but the exact same thing has been happening to me now for about the last week...

1st Azureus has 3 little status indicators on the status bar at the bottom. Are they all green?

If ratio is not green you may need to seed more and get your ratio to 1 or better.

If NAT or DHT aren't green then visit the Azureus Wiki and fix em.

Then what is the status or your torrents health, is their a tracker or seed problem? Holding your mouse over the indicater will tell you what the color means if it's not green. Check Azureus Wiki good torrent definition

Also you can right click downloading torrents, choose column setup, and make sure average swarm speed is selected. This is the average of each users up and down speeds similtaneously. If the number is higher than your up speed then you can may have problems with your down speed.

Theoretically bittorrent nodes are more likely to share with peers that share back. If you are choking your up speed too much then you may have a problem unless there's an over abundance of seeds.

By right clicking the torrent and selecting show details you can view the average completion of the swarm, Note anything less than 40% is likely to be slow on the dl side.

As already noted make sure your max up speed is 65% - 80% of your total up. Only open it up if you are seeding only when you are away from your computer.

Other things might be ISP traffic shaping, make sure your AZ encryption is turned on.

It could have something to do with Pirate Bay, if the torrent uses their tracker. I had a torrent that got slow after PB went down, and noticed that the download arrow was red (in µtorrent), tracker off line. It still finished though, with the peers that were already there, and other peers that came in through DHT.
