130 Emule users have their premises searched!

Germany is well known as an eDonkey2000 safe-haven. By many accounts it’s the most popular method of sharing information online; exceeding even the mighty BitTorrent protocol. Some of the most coveted file-sharing software has its origins from Germany, namely the highly popular and open source eDonkey2000 client, eMule.

Recent enforcement actions against the eDonkey2000 network has come in the form of several raids against the largest indexing servers. Perhaps the most significant action taken was the February 21, 2006, seizure of RazorBack2. At its height, RazorBack2 was the indexing home to over 1.2 million users – sharing over 170 million files. After the raid, there was a noticeable dip in the total eDonkey2000 population; falling from approximately 3.5 million users to 3.0 million.

But like all things file-sharing, these numbers were soon replenished. Within days, the amount of users and files traversing the eDonkey2000 network was restored to their pre-RazorBack2 levels. In the face of never ending replenishment, the entertainment industry finally resorted to an old tactic: getting personal.

In an announcement made today by the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry), German authorities searched over 130 premises this morning of alleged eDonkey2000 pirates in Cologne and Bergheim. According to the IFPI, the alleged pirates were sharing up to 8,000 copyrighted works.

This is a sign of things to come. More big time users of P2P will surely have their houses searched because they are careless and uneducated. Its sad but people gotta wise up!

I think it's time for emule users to switch to just searching with KAD and not connect to servers.

What about other programs whos users are easily identified by the 0day files and how much they upload? Seems likely some other doors will be knocked down soon!

Violance will not resolve this conflict.
You are not helping.

Most of use live in democratic countrys. The only way to bring radical change is for millions of people to contact their elected representatives and political candidates and ask for change and vote for people who represent our views.

Its well known that there have been fed run servers. Its not safe and it has beed discussed by me and others in different threads before. Ive even warned people that the new winmx servers could be trouble. Thats why Im careful about what I share while I use any program. I have been suprised people have not went to jail before now after it was found out about the fake servers. Even if I did say that, I would have been attacked and laughed at. Any program that users severs is just a set up waiting to happen for people who don't take care. You'll find this out one day. Me, I'm not worried one bit. I am gonna laugh my ass off when the next set up comes to light.

BTW. Crying Wolf, means to tell a lie. I'm not doing that, I'm giving good advice for smart people. Its well with in reason for what Ive been saying all along to be true. IN fact there should be little doubt about it. The feds are known to set up fake servers to catch filesharers and BT will be no diffferent. Its sad because a lot of good groups are going to get arrested because they have stupid members.

I don't dare to use emule at all anymore. That is sad for me, because I found a lot of music and films I've been looking for and which aren't sold in Germany.
What about the safety of torrents? Does any one knoe how to minimalize risks in using torrents?

Plently of ways.

1) Change the ports you use to uncommon BT ports (30000, 16886, 50000 and above really)
2) Use a program that features protocol encryption (uTorrent and Azureus support this)
3) Download torrents from private tracker sites (OiNK, BitMe, Demonoid, Pisexy, FileMP3)
4) Choose an ISP that doesn't monitor this type of activity or throttle any BitTorrent ports.

Thank you so much! I hope I can change my ports, I had always some trouble with my ports, I 'm happy right now that they work properly.
Okay, then I'll change from tornado to Azureus.
But I have no idea about the ISP.
