    Starblazers

Does anyone else remember this cartoon? I use to wake up and watch this one every morning before school, along with "The Great Space Coaster" and I'm now re discovering it again. It was anime before I knew what the term meant. It was like Star Wars with people riding around in space in huge battle ships (like sea ships). I've had a few crappy episodes files away on CD for years but I happened to run across better versions and me happy.

I was only wondering does anyone else or did anyone else like this series of so long ago.

Nope. Can't say I remember it. Looks along the lines of Voltron, early japanese animation.

Looks like a ROBOTECH rip off. That show was absolutely awesome. They had like the original and the different cast on other sagas. I didnt get too much into it since i was grown by then, but the macross saga was the best.

I was just going to say that, shawners. I miss that show so much. I think I miss the 3rd saga the most.

    ARGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!

Well Since it came out in 1974, then made into a tv series in 1979 it wasnt a Robotech rip off. It has no mechs or robots either. I don't know why it would be compaired to that. I kinda feel like George Lucass ripped off this series for Star Wars.Im very surprised no one has ever seen this show. Its way better than Robotech ever was. Its epic! I strongly suggest you guys look into this. It is one of the best space anime shows of all time, I kid you not. I could cry, compaired it to Robotech! Thats a crime! Tech was good, granted, but it was not in the same league as Starblazers because Blazers had the best story arc, But thats my opinion as I like space shows. I really can't convey how good this show was so look into it yourself.

Now did you think I would let you down Mel.
I watched it when it came out in 80 on a local tv affiliate when I lived in Indiana.
Here is a website dedicated to the show.
    http://www.desslok.com/main.htm

Star Blazers was the U.S. name, it was originaly called Space Cruiser Yamato In Japan.
There are several torrents on some animi sites avalible if you do a search.
Like you said Star Blazers was out long before Robotech came out.

After the series came out there were 4 movies there were made in the early to mid 80's.

In the last movie the captain comes back from the dead to lead the ship and crew on one last desperate mission. Ahhh! Weren't they all.

Myself I loved the sound of the giant cannon when it was fired. I could never understand why in the hell they used all the other guns on the ships that never really did any damage. They always waited till they got the crap knocked out of them before they brought out the big gun and blew everything (including small planets) away.
I also sent you a PM with a little suprise you might like.

Ok people this opening theme from the original series is going to sound rather hoaky compared to the high end dollar music of todays anime shows and movies. Just keep in mind this show is over 30 yrs old.
Mel the attached picture makes a damn good desktop background

I have a very similar memory of this Mels... getting up at 6AM to watch both of these toons. I have often thought about how before anime was labeled as such, it was just awesome animation.
"There's a passage I got memorized. Ezekiel 25:17... I been sayin' that shit for years. And if you ever heard it, it meant your ass. I never really questioned what it meant. I thought it was just a cold-blooded thing to say to a motherfucker before you popped a cap in his ass. But I saw some shit this mornin' made me think twice… The truth is you're the weak. And I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm tryin', Ringo. I'm tryin' real hard to be a shepherd."
