Regarding the hot topic of Bush collecting Americans' phone calls and NSA
Is it okay to demand that the government protect your rights all the while they still try to protect your saftey?
What's more important? your safety or your rights?
This is what I think:
I dont think my rights can actually matter when Im being protected from the terrorists. I mean, yes, there are exceptions. The government shouldn't be too extreme about it For example, I don't want the FBI to show up at my house oneday and strip me naked to serach if I'm associated with terrorists without any reaonsable and suspected cause. But, come on, phone calls? Unless you are a terrorist and actually dont want the federal government tapping on yoour calls, why care? If your phone calls consist of "whats for dinner" and "whos cindy going out with?" or even "baby, i want you," Do u really think Bush is just trying to make all americans miserable? No! What any reason would he have? Lay off bush. Hes just trying to protect us.
It's not okay to demand your full rights in the time of war because the government, in taking away your certain (and i say certain cuz again, I dont want to be serached naked without any unreasonable cause) rights, is acutally protecting you.
Let's consider the Civil War. President LIncolin suspened the Habeous Corpus. Does that take away your rights as American citizen? Yes. But is it really possible to hold a trial for every war prisoners in the time of the war? no.
Let's consider the WWi. During hte red scare, the Supreme Court ruled that during the time of war, the government can supress your freedom of speech that causes rebellion among the people and disrupt the peace within the country.
We are in a war Iraq, more specifically, against tTerrorism. Do you think your rights actually matter when there is a gun pointed to your face? Saftey first, rights second.
To some extent I agree with you. Would you rather have another September 11 or have your phone calls recorded?
I think it's like that old America-hater used to say:
"Those who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither"
But what did he know about America compared to you guys or Bushie?
Personally, I'm glad there are others who bring other side of different views. Otherwise, most people would NEVER know!
Im justsick of people blaming President Bush for everything.
Kayne West, for example.
Does he thinkg BUSH magically brought Hurricane katrina to New Orleans? So why is it Bush's fault?
Did Bush make those terrorists attack us on 9/11? ...
If you were a president, and would you declared a war on Iraq just becaouse you felt like it or because u wanted to protect the American people?
I agree that some of his decisions didn't work out well but does that make the decision in itself bad?
He made those decisions to protect the Americans because that was what he thought was right.
Imagine yourself as the President of the United STates. When your country gets attacked my terrorists, are you going to make some risky decisions that may cost some rights of the people but may prevent another attack? YES. Think people. think. Bush is not the almighty-antt-american-evil-dictator.
All I ask is that you explain the threat Iraq posed to America.
As for the Kanye West thing, I think you missed what happened in New Orleans. It's not that a hurricane hit. It was that a hurricane hit and the people that should have come forward to help the victims were busy having a circle-jerk.

Ok. A little history lesson.
during the presidency of Geroge H.W. Bush, in augst 1990, Iraq headed by SADDAM HUSSEIN (remember him?) launched a sudden invasion of neighboring Kuwait. You see, he was going after Kuwait's substantial oil wealth. Senior Bush knew that once Hussein got his hands on the oil reserve in Kuwait, it would disrupt the flow of Kuwaiti oil to America and western Europe. Senior Bush was then obviously concerned about the protection of the oil reserve in Kuwait (and also the protection of U.S. ally Saudi Arabia, back then anyways), and Saddam's investment in destructive weapons during that era.
this is how the Persian Gulf War started - it was simply a military operation to drive Iraqui forces occupying Kuwait. The war was over in six weeks.
We didn't invade Iraq to get rid of Saddam Hussein in 1990 cuz we figured that the people in iraq would overthrow him. it obviously didn't happen.
After 9/11, UN inspectors were sent to ensure that Iraq didnt posess any destructive weapons used for terrorist attacks. Saddam didn't cooperate and cut off all his ties with U.S. and the U.N.
ok, now, get this. In October 2002, Congress passed a resolution authorizing the Presient to use force against Iraq. This time, we were gonna get Saddam for sure. In a week, the U.S. forces arrived at Bahdad and basically won the war. So Bush declares to the Iraqi people that all major combat operations in Iraq are ended, but Saddam's supporters continue to attackour soldiers and many other good officials involved in rebuilding Iraq.
The reason why our tropps aren't home is because of those bastards who wont let us rebuild their country to be better. Saddam's removal from power was the necessary first step in restoring stability and freedom to Iraqis and they don't get that. We are trying to HELP and if we left the country now, it would erupt in civil war and some crazy muslim leader who hates americans is going to head Iraq and probably buy some nuclear weapons and kill us all.
Now do you get it?!
You see, so many people don't even know whats going on. They are just infulenced by the public medai dissing the president because they wanna blame SOMEONE for the war. If poeple knew EXACTLY what happend and what is going on right now in Iraq, they wouldn't be so quick to call bush anti-amiercan.

Numbe 1. Why would the president not send help? OF COURSE HE REQUESTED IT. think! if u were a president, would u not send help to your country which has just been hit my a hurricane? of couse not! you would request help and immediately. So why didn't the help come? BEcause they were slowed down.
Is it the presdient's fault that the rescuers were dimwits and didn't come in time? NO. the fault is the rescuers, not the president's. so why doesn't kanye blame the rescuers and just blantly blame the president? Because he dones't have any common sense and didn't htink things through.
LMAO!Lay off bush. Hes just trying to protect us.
Protection?
His brand of condom is constitutionally illegal, but we already know his feelings about the constitution.

Not to bring it to too fine a point but you should probably refrain from encouraging the rest of the world to THINK.
Your Iraqi explanation falls somewhere in-between circular and delusional. Iraq posed no substantial threat to the U.S. or pretty well any other country. Now if you were to say that Saddam was a threat to his own people you'd be dead on. Even Bushie isn't claiming that they were a threat anymore. It's moved on to liberation now. You must have old talking points.
Iraq wasn't a threat so your initial statement about protecting the American people is faulty.
--
You should just dump Iraq from your argument and concentrate on the War on Terrorism thing as your strong point.

Incidentally, prior to the the gulf war you allude to, Iraq was a thriving country with the best educational and technological resources in the region. edit - aside from Israel. The reason why our tropps aren't home is because of those bastards who wont let us rebuild their country to be better. Saddam's removal from power was the necessary first step in restoring stability and freedom to Iraqis and they don't get that.
Bush isn't talking about it being athreat anymore because we have already taken the country. Before March 2003, it was a threat because it could have contiained weaposn of mass destruction. We thought this because Saddam refused to cooperate fully with the U.N. inspectors sent to Iraq to ensure that the nation destroyed its most dangerous weapons.
I understand its moved on to liberation now. And again, because we have taken the country. On May 1st 2003, President declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended. And like I said,
"The reason why our tropps aren't home is because of those bastards who wont let us rebuild their country to be better. Saddam's removal from power was the necessary first step in restoring stability and freedom to Iraqis and they don't get that. We are trying to HELP and if we left the country now, it would erupt in civil war and some crazy muslim leader who hates americans is going to head Iraq and probably buy some nuclear weapons and kill us all."
That takes care of the liberation problem. Its not Bush's fault.

Who personally appointed the heads of those organizations? Are you suggesting he didn't know his friend was unqualified? Who stood at the press podium and said "you're doing a heck of a job Brownie"?Originally Posted by kari14

They ignore poor nations where appalling and atrocious events happen because there is no gain in helping them out. We are in the middle East for one reason and its because the first family has their nose butt deep in the oil crack and wants to take control for their own personal gains. They don't give two shits about our needs or wants or have you not looked at gas prices lately? Its all bullocks spoon fed to the public like a modern day Hitler declamation.
