i signed up for this company called ACN. i didnt know it was a pyramid scheme a day after i paid the required $500 to get in.
a day later, i found out it was a scam. i was going to get "qualified" but since i know the truth, decided not to. it signed this contract and it said that if i quit AFTER ten days, i will get penalized. but i am quitting BEFORE 10 days. i told the guy who invited me that i was quitting. i also asked for a refund but it couldnt happen.
my question is...will i get penalized in any way? how am i sure if i am officially dropped from the company. keep in mind that i didnt go get myself "qualified" for the job.
try filing a claim against the person who introduced you to the pyramid scheme in small claims court. represent yourself, brush up on court procedure and your state laws regarding pyramid schemes.
generally the contract, even with the ten day clause, should be ruled null and void in whole due to the fact that you cant enforce the provisions of a contract that is essentially an illegal activity.
write a letter to your attorney general, office of consumer protection office (names differ with each state, but that is generally what you want, in some states its the department of justice).
and good luck. this will be a learning experience, you'll learn to recognize the signs of a pyramid scheme and steer clear.
sorry for your misfortune.
edit: also, if its a check, contact your bank and try to reverse the charges if at all possible, or stop payment. if its a credit card, reverse charges. if you paid cash, good fuckin luck.

If you had $500 to dump into a get-rich-quick scam.... have I got a deal for you!
I did the ACN thing 3 years ago. While I will say that I got sweet talked into it, it is not a pyramid scheme in my opinion. You are selling services that people need such as gas, electric and phone. I'm sure there are more services by now as they were planned for the future at the time I was in. I never made it to my first stage with the needed number of reps and customers. This is simply because I am not a salesman. I never was and never will be. I had been to a few seminars and even a big event in Los Angeles. I almost got talked into the Annual event. Considering I tried for quite a while, I pretty much kissed the money goodbye. I never saw a check since I never met the requirements. It was just a bad decision.
I don't recall the 10-day deal. I may have read it, don't remember. As far as getting penalized, I wouldn't think that after 10 days that it should happen to you. I mean, they already took $500 from you. It seems Malakai1911 has the right idea about getting the money back. If the guy who invited you is giving you the information that a refund couldn't happen, remember that he may still be trying to get his quota of members in order to be qualified. He'll tell you anything if he is close to "making it." I realized that the guy above the guy who invited me had probably been struggling for possibly years, stating that his misfortune was due to him dropping out of it for a while due to family tragedy and such. Being a salesman can be hard. Good luck and let us know what happens.

No action may be brought under this title alleging infringement of copyright based on the noncommercial use by a consumer for making digital musical or analog musical recordings.
that is exactly how modern pyramid scams work. most of the morons who would agree to "send me $50 and ten people will send you $50 have already chocked to death on a doorknob or managed to drive over themselves with a lawn mower.Originally Posted by Lord_of_the_Dense
they way it works is they sell seemingly legitimate services, except with retarded initial investment for not much gain and they require you to recruit other reps as part of the scam.
Back to the subject: if you paid the $500 as a check call your bank IMMEDIATELY and get a stop payment on the check.
otherwise give the fucker who scammed you a choice between your money and his teeth. Then take both.

and one other quick thing, no they can't go after you for other penalties... or at least if they do they have no cahnce of doing anything about it tell 'em to die in a fire.
