Bearshare RIAA Settlement. Transfer of ownership.

"Online file-sharing service BearShare, along with operators Free Peers Inc., is packing it up due to a $30 million settlement with the recording industry. The conditions of the settlement were agreed to by the P2P company to avoid further copyright infringement litigation. " - http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/to...eHello30M.html

A loss perhaps, but not a tragic one. The most popular Gnutella client at the moment appears to be LimeWire (and soon hopefully FrostWire), and of course those crazy Shareaza users.

It leaves me with a few questions.

I wonder what the GDF's take on the situation is.
I wonder what the heck iMesh is going to do with the BearShare client.
I wonder who here uses BearShare, and what they will be migrating to.

Unless you are the following people, I do not particularly wish to associate with you:
    Krell, HelenaP, mountain_rage, mfgbypooter, Mels_Smileys45, excrement_cranium.
That's it for now. This list will be updated whenever I feel like it.

The new owners will eventually turn BearShare into a legal paid service just like iMesh and filter out all copyrighted matterial. They are going to get rid of BearShareLite, right now the BearShare (regular) has a new spyware program from 180 Solutions called Zango spyware. You can't remove the spyware and use the newer versions of BearShare. I'm not sure what they plan to do with the BearSharePro users.

Most will just consider BearShare as a dead Gnutella client.

At least we will still have Limewire, Frostwire, Shareaza, KCeasy, Morpheus and Gnucleus that all
    support Gnutella.

Right now Im working on finishing my downloads, and after that I have no idea what Im going to use. I do know I cant go back to Ares, as it plainly does not have the content.

Well if vinny gets out of a job, then that is reason to rejoice right there! As far as Bearshare....WHY would ANYONE still want to use it now that the scource code is in the hands of a company that is in bed with the RIAA??

I just can't understand it. I wouldn't touch that software with a ten foot pole. (Make that a 20 foot pole....I'll be a little safer!)

It doesnt really matter to me if they have the source code, as right now Im only sharing public domain files. Once my downloads are finished, the program is gone.

A loss, but not a great one. I prefer Shareaza Plus for Gnutella. And there still are plenty of other Gnutella clients.

Shareaza is a program I havnt tried, Im trying not to be prejudiced, but with the spamming they did here, it still leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. This spamming was done with the full approval in their forums.

I dont know, I dont think I was here when they were spamming but I understand where you're coming from. Nevertheless, Shareaza is a great program, and also I think Shareaza Plus was not developed by Shareaza's developers but by someone else who used Shareaza's sourcecode.

I have an open mind, so what kind of info do you have on Shareaza Plus? Also as I havnt tried Shareaza, what are the abilities of it, as I have no use for torrents, except for linux downloads, and I dont need anything relating to a 4 legged critter with long ears. LOL

Well as you probably already know Shareaza Plus connects to Gnutella 1 and 2, BT and ed2k. The big difference between Shareaza and Shareaza Plus is that Shareaza connects to more ultrapeers than the normal Shareaza dramatically increasing the speeds, but also slightly hurting the network.

Do what I have done. Join usenet. All honestly, its simply the best. Your getting speed, security, content, support. I have tried them all, i get all the stuff before any other p2p network gets it, i do provide access to what i download or help seed on private BT. But as far as anything, the only thing keeping me away earlier when i first joined, i just didnt have the right newsreader to obtain binaries. I cant tell you how vast the content is on it, or how many movies keep appearing and appearing. Great older movies, great new movies, cult classics, different rips of what you want. SVCD, XVID, DVDR, DVD9, even people posting rat movies if you want. People post things and put a REQ for a movie, and later others upload it and its awesome away people use their time to provide for others.
Just do a search on things you like at binsearch.info to see what popsup, sometimes they dont update things fast enough but look at nfoforce.nl and vcdquality.com for the new releases. Music scene is posted on different places, mp3shitter i believe. Bearshare was an APP to join gnutella. They all lead you to same queue line.

What I currently use is a combination of BitTorrent (uTorrent with private trackers) and Shareaza Plus. The combination has been working flawlessly for me.

OK, first off, Im not interested in being the first with a file as I have more songs, and movies that I will ever need. Im mostly in it for the fun of sharing. Tried the mule, and the donkey. Found them both wanting. For me its about speed, and the files I want, few though they may be. I dont run the pc all night, but while Im on, I want to smoke the uploads. For us a movie that I download is a time filler, be it a porn flick that her or I want to watch, "yes ladys do watch porn at times", or a preview of a movie that we want to see at the theater. For us a movie, is an evening out, a date if you will. Supper, and an evening together. Im a romantic old cuss. Its more about the caring, and sharing, rather than seeing how many files I can get. Did that sound right?
