    File errors, please help!

    Hi,

I'm trying to download some anime mp3s, and I can download the ones that have roman filenames (e.g. dearest). But some have certain symbols, I guess because they're written in japanese characters and those keep giving me file errors when I'm trying to download them. And since most anime songs are written in japanese characters I can't download most of them. Please help! I'm using WinMX v3.31

    Thanks

Hmmz, I also had a slightly different problem with Japanese users. (see http://www.zeropaid.com/bbs/showthre...&threadid=3535 ) This leads me to suspect that there is some difference in the Asian frontcode servers.

Nobody seems to be entirely certain why it is, although I have a few suspicions. Firstly, I assume you are getting a "File/User Unavailable" error as opposed to "Error Negotiating" ... if so, do a whois enquiry, if they are still online, chances are it's because they have deleted the file from their shared folder, and not refreshed it in winMX. If it was a connection problem (ie too many hops), then chances are it would return a timed out error. [another point worth raising here is that I have never had any problems downloading of Australian users, so I can't see why Japan should differ, if a geographical factor is present]

I don't think that you should have any problem at all in downloading files with Japanese names, since contrary to popular belief I have never seen and don't believe there is a Japanese copy of winMX 3.31 available*. Due to this, then they must be downloadable, since chances are the user you are trying to download off had to download it themselves from someone else, probably also using winMX.

It looks as if the real root of the problem is the Asian frontcode servers from the evidence that's available (and if you want me to really throw a spanner in the works, read on: I download very often off a Taiwanese user, who I never have problems connecting to!). If anybody else has any suggestions, please let us all know, if we work together we can sort this one out!

Sorry I can't be more helpful, but this may be able to help you a little!

*I seem to remember in winMX 2.6 a whois enquiry returned the client details too (like an opennap whois), and Japanese users were listed as having winMX 2.6j ... can anybody else remember this? or was I thinking of Napster? Oh ... and if you are wondering how non-english speaking japanese users can understand what the buttons mean/how they read the filenames, they use a peice of software called NJStar communicator, freely downloadable from http://www.njstar.com or import their own language file (for the buttons/menus)

IT DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU LIVE! if u live far away from japan or wherever ur trying to download from the people you are trying to download from might be long gone but it still might say they are available!

right click the file, hit manually download, rename the file to something without forign characters, and try that.

Some users have problems downloading stuff with a lot of forign characters, so that might help.
