Glad ya figured it out. :)
Now stop being so freaking nice, and buy a stun gun. - Krell
When I connect to certain servers...actually about half of the available servers for the emule network I get an error message in my log file that says, 'your ip is a part of ipfilter.dat file.
I now see and understand (r.i.p.) notbob's point about programs such as peerguardian and protowall. However this isn't a rant about either of those two programs...this concerns the irc chat in the emule client its self.
Emule comes with a built in irc client..so I thought I' d join the irc channel and browse user's files like ya do in a dc hub or even (r.i.p.) winmx...well as it turns out I think this labelled me as an mpaa spy and got my ip on that darn ipfilter.dat file....why else would someone try browsing your files in an irc channel if they didn't work for the riaa/mpaa etc?
Well I was attempting to fileshare which is what I thought the whole purpose of the network is..I had never been banned or blacklisted before joining the irc channel and attempting to browse admin's files there.
But before I complete accuse them I should note that for some odd reason my ip address has changed from the 6x.xxx.xxx.xxx range to the 7x.xxx.xxx.xxx range which could have something to do with it as my ip is OMG roadrunner (timewarner cable).
If u rely religiously on programs such as peerguardian and protowall u are limiting your own content by excluding so many folks unecessarily thus making rarer content even more scarce.
Edit
I turned off my pc..unplugged the power to my cable modem for a while and got a new ip still in the 7x.xxx.xxx.xxx range but apparently it was good enough to get me unbanned on the emule network.
i wish i'd had paid attention to what my original ip was and then wrote down my subnet mask, domain/(gateway whatever it is and dhcp servers) but I never knew I'd need that info..if I had it I might have found a way to keep a static ip or at least the one I was originally assigned.
anyone know how to do that?

Does anyone know how to make emule a little less risky?
Risky how? If you mean you are worried about someone hacking you through the client, use dropMyRights to run it as untrusted. If you are worried about P2P companies, just use a ipfilter.dat and use PeerGuardian.Originally Posted by Kyuuketsuki

Unless you are the following people, I do not particularly wish to associate with you:
Krell, HelenaP, mountain_rage, mfgbypooter, Mels_Smileys45, excrement_cranium.
That's it for now. This list will be updated whenever I feel like it.
Also try Kad!
Thank you a lot! Yeah, I used to run Kad and P2P simultaneously. You're right, I am worried about the companies. I currently heard bad news about people being caught.
Okay, I'll look for this PeerGuardian and an ipfilter.dat. Or do you have a link where I can download the program?
I keep looking for tribbles in this post.

Uuuh, I am not sure if I understand what you actually mean. ^^
it was a reference to an old black and white sci fi series episode called, "The trouble with tribbles".

Well,I like emule, but no one seems to cough up the goods.I have good speeds and ratings, but not much else.I have >30gb shared and see much leeching towards me.Anny suggestions?
You mean you can't download at all?
