looking for cd database program

hey guys.... been a looong time since i last dropped by these forums, but once again i come to you in search of advice. well, ive been burning a whole lot of CD's lately to backup and increase hard drive capacity and i need a way to index the files in each CD to know what is were.... so any program you guys know about that is able to do this, please do let me know about it

Save the following as a batch file and run it in the root directory of each disc you make.

dir /a /s /-p /o:gn >filelisting.txt

Use JDiriectory List program. Make a folder on your pc marked Database CD. And list each cd with it. Mark numbers on the .txt file and mark the matching number on the disk. Use a spindle to put them all on or a big cd book so you can have easy access. I got a big dvd folder book of over 350 movies in it.

the puzzler, that works just fine however i do have one question, can i get the batch file to list files in sub-sub-subdirectories?. i.e. ROOT/ex1/ex2/ex3/example.txt. The filelist.txt generated only shows ROOT/ex1/ex2/ex3 (it shows the folder name but not its contents)

You could just use Directory Lister and make a folder for each cd you're going to burn containing the files that are going to burned on it, then create an html file with a listing of the contents *yes, even subdirectories*.

I myself use a program called CD Bank. I didn't like it as much when it first came out cause I had around 800 cds and dvds in it and it was terribly slow (to search though by keyword, open program, go into search mode, etc...), and lacked the features the newer version has. But in the new version I have aorund 280 DVDs and it is fast enough (searching, etc..) I'm happy with it. It has a built in keyword search function that can be limited to look for only certain file types, and folders by checking boxes. I would recommend it since I tried quite a few of them, and this is the only one I liked. And it can save the database, as well as exporting in different formats like html. It can also keep track of loaned out disks, etc..Good luck!
