Uninstalling Norton Internet Security?

I want to uninstall Norton Internet Security, and I accidently removed it from the Add//Remove list of programs.

So..I can't find an uninstall anywhere else...this program is like spyware! but much much worse.

What can I do to get this program off of this computer....?

I'm betting this is NIS 2005.....I can't find the info anywhere on the hunk of shit.

All I really need to know is how I can get the Internet Security back on the uninstall list.

p.s. this is NOT my computer, as I would never put a piece of garbage like this on my computer.

you could check symantec's support site for an uninstaller. they should also have information on how to manually uninstall it. http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/ i think

Basically all the uninstall information they give is thru the Windows Add/uninstall ap......and believe me..these people DO NOT want you to uninstall their software lol.

I screwed up bigtime removing it from the list....i thought it asked me to remove the program, but it just took it off the list.

I've tried various uninstall alternative programs. This is the message I get:

It was way easier than dealing with Nortons administrator BS when uninstalling.

I delete the folder, and add removed program list to remove it. Then use two things. Myuninstaller or any other that can uninstall anything. And regmechanic to delete the reigstry values that it leaves behind.

I would be careful removing Norton with a reg editor. I did that once with reg crawler and my computer wouldn't even boot afterwards.

I am curious though, are people uninstalling Norton because their key no longer works or because it is a heap of over-bloated dog poo.

Norton is a piece of shit. You did the right thing to remove it.

Norton is the hardest program to uninstall, there are usually 3 separate listings on your Control Panel- Add or Remove Programs.
One is Live Update, the other is something to do with Symantec Engine, and Norton itself.

My operating system recovery disks reinstalls Norton if I have to use them. It is a bitch to get rid of Norton. It usually takes several reboots after it is removed and there are still Norton folders left on my computer.
The uninstall process doesn't remove everything.
Check C:\Program Files\Common Files and
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
for left over Symantec and Norton folders.
Be sure that on your folder options that hidden folders and files are visible.
Because Norton hides its files and folders.
To get rid of all of the left over files and folders,
don't use the registry editor that can really miss up your PC.
Just do a search for "Norton" and "Symantec" and delete the folders.
Norton is a good AntiVirus software, but it is a resource hog and one of the most difficult programs to uninstall.

Removed it cause the KEY DOnt work. But Norton v10 works, and 2005 works. Norton 2006 isnt working. Which is stupid cause people are reposting norton 2005 and previous versions since they still do the update.

Go to C:\Program Files\Symantec\Norton what ever it is....similar to that....there should be the exe for the uninstaller there.

you can throw your recovery disk away. There is so many windows ISO out. One runs from cdrom drive and starts up, others are lite, edited to only important things and with 10,000 drivers. Thats why if you uninstall it with a program and then check for registry values to delete. Its better then messing with the registry before deleteing all things norton.

Add another one to the list of people who had trouble getting rid of Norton. I can't even remember how I finally succeeded. I remember I went to the instructions on the site, for when you have problems uninstalling, but whatever they told me to do didn't work.

But yeah, I hadn't thought of that. The next time I have to reinstall windows, I'll use what the company who sold me the computer gave me, and there will be the Norton 60 day trial sitting there again like it deserves to be there, conflicting with everything, slowing everything down once more, and I'll have to figure out how to get rid of it again. Symantec - I hate those guys.
