    Shortcut Problem

I'm using XP Pro and I've got a small problem. Every time I try to move an exe file from a folder to the desktop (left click and drag) XP makes a shortcut. This is really a pain since I move a lot of program files around. Is there a setting I can use to change this?

    Thanks

PS.....I tried google but couldn't find help.

Get a better mouse to control the moment more precise or use cut & paste instead.

I've never had a problem before and my mouse is fine. It just started doing this after a clean re-install of XP. I could always right click and drag and select the move here option, but I've gotten so used to the other way it's hard to change.

There are default behaviors, the only way to change them is with Tweak etc . . which you may have done and forgot about.

To create a shortcut to an executable, use the left mouse button to drag an executable file to a new folder.

This is a factor determined by file type.

If you d&d a file between two drives, it copies the file without moving it. If you d&d a file between two folders on the same drive, it moves the file.

Quick task: Copy files or folders

    To copy items:
    1. Select the files and folders you wish to copy.
    2. Click the Copy task.
    3. In the Copy Items dialog, navigate through the folders until you find the destination folder (or use Make New Folder to create a new destination), and click Copy.
Alternatively, if the destination is listed in Other Places, press and hold Ctrl while you drag and drop the files onto the appropriate other places link. When you release the mouse button, a pop-up menu will ask whether you wish to Copy the files or Cancel the action.
