There is also a program called Spinrite 6.0 that will work.

R-studio, Getdataback,O&O recovery and Easyrecovery have all saved me from myself in the past.
I don't need no stinking signature

GetDataBack for NTFS is good if you've formatted your hdd or something to that extent in which the original file names have been corrupted/lost, but it's quite unnecessary to use if you've just emptied the recycle bin and afterwards realized there was something in there you shouldn't have put in there. I mean, it can take HOURS to scan. :S

For accidentally deleted files, I'd suggest using Tune Up Utilities "undelete" function. It's simple, fast, and does its job. Tune Up also has the BEST file shredder that I've seen on any program.

*gives a low whistle* That's going to take a while, no matter what program you use...

You haven't added any large files to the hdd since you deleted them, right?

I have added one so I figure I will have lost a good portion although I'm hoping maybe it nuked earlier deleted stuff. I dropped 10GB worth of DV video onto the drive right after I deleted the mp3's however I didnt actually realize I'd deleted my music until this morning.

Got that recovery CD burned yet?

If you want to recover data, then you must only READ FROM that volume . . and you must have a volume that is larger to RECOVER DATA TO.

The software will read the MFT and sectors and copy the data for you, but you cant recover BACK TO the same drive.

    Buy a new hd

I actually had the brilliant idea of clicking shift delete when I initially deleted it :D

EDIT @ Krell. Havent burned the disk yet but it's on my todo list. Im using the software Auggie reccomended and it seems to have dected it all Im just freeing space to recover it. And as for hard drives I thought we had this discussion before :P I have 4 drives a 300 a 250 a 200 and an 80 :P Just need to move some stuff to dvd some I can dump this 99GB of crap back to my drive and sort out the mp3's
