Question ABC Client - Slow DL

    Hey all :icon_cycl

I'm having slow download speed problems and Just can't figure whats going on if I could get some help with it would be much appreciated

Ok... I'm using ABC client 3.1
    My torrent is healthy
I do have a router, but the ports ABC is using is opened ( Port ; 50420)
Also the port is opened on my firewalls
My torrent is Green so it saids everything is good to go... (Seeds: 240 / Peers: 1525)

But I only seam to be downlaoding at very slow speeds - 0 - 10kb/sec on average
I know my connection is fine - I just ran a test on dslreports.com and the results were fine froma server faraway from me .. anywho the results :
    Your download speed : 4891 kbps or 611.4 KB/sec.
    Your upload speed : 750 kbps or 93.7 KB/sec.

So we know thats also not the problem

I have it set for unlimited upload settings for now for these tests...

But no one seams to be download much from me either

I am running on xp sp2 - Not the best system tho - pent. 4 1.7 only 256mb ram
But CPU usage is fine (hops around 5%)

If there is any information I forgot to add I'm sorry, please let me know what else you need to know and share it with you in hopes to getting this fixed.

Also I would like to note that its not just this torrent that is going slow other torrents go just as slow - But I only have this one running at the moment for the test

    thanks in :icon_geek advance

    1) are you running ANY other P2P apps etc at the same time?

    2) when you are using ABC, can you surf the web with no problems?

    3) In Event Viewer > Applications, do you see 4226 errors?

    4) does ABC require a listening port?

    5) do you have any tracker errors?

    6) have you tried this same torrent with another client such as U-torrent?

STOP downloading it!!!! Your on a PUBLIC site and theres no way your downloading a file that has that many seeds and leeches. Is it a movie? And what tracker is it announcing to. MPAA have employed a tracker that shows more seeds and leechers on it, and after you get so high, speeds will go down, and stop, and wont let you finish or open the file. It may stop at 99percent. Its to discourage you from downloading.

    Nope, Just ABC running ATM

Yea, no problems on the net - infact I did that speed test while having a few torrents running :-p

Nope no 4226 errors in the event viewer

I set the port to 50420 in the ABC pref > Network - Port: ... I take it thats is the listen port?

    No Tracker errors

Yes, In the past few days I've been trying to fix this problem, so I've been trying out all differnt BT clients - i was using bitlord before - then I decided to try about 4 differnt cleints and all have the same problem

    - Sorry for the slow reply was afk for a bit

Shawners that may be the case - But very highly unlikly do to the fact I've had this problem for awihle now and the torrents do finsh in the long run - Yes it is a public site/ tracker

But I also have this problem with other torrents that arn't from public trackers - Yes the do go abit fast but still usaly in the 0 - 20kb/sec range

So I'm not sure if that whats going on here

    It Is a game *

ok . . so lets recap, you have an environmental problem where multiple clients all produce the same result, slow downloads on select torrents that appear to be connected to enough seeders

You see no indications of errors and have taken steps to ensure that essential port are properly forwarded.

Now . . this is where you think outside the box, literally.

I want to know where you are, whos network you are on, which ISP you use, and if you are able to sustain good download speeds on the same torrents on another machine on that same property and network.

Ok I've stoped the download on this system and started it up on the other (Configed all the ports for it and ect)

and so far... Same deal getting about 5kb/sec

Do you think that it could be something with my ISP blocking torrent traffic somehow?

Youre welcome, thats what i hang out here for . . . that, and the chicks

In the future when you have networking issues, you will be able to change the scope of your thinking and be a better problem solver.

There are suggestions that you may be able to change the port to something else, but since I do not know exactly what Rogers uses in your area I cant say what might work.

Maybe some of our fellow Canucks have plowed this ground already?

I was gonna post that link, but I erased it.

Take a peek at the throttling link i sent.

"my ISP virtually blocks all bittorrent traffic. This is where the new encryption comes in. Download the beta version of utorrent, set the encryption settings to "forced" and uncheck the box that says to allow incoming legacy connections, then follow the guide listed here...

Ok Well that seamed to help a tiny bit but the speeds are still slow - they were going fast for a few seconds and then slowed down to normal 9going 3kb/sec atm

:-) I'm going to try that utorent now see if that fixes the issue

    Thanks again :-)
