Hi guys, am a newbie here though i have been using bit torrent for a while with no problems until now. i had 2 clients installed, bit torrent and bit lord. for reasons unknown to me it was the latter that was being used and when i tried to go back to bit torrent i thought if i uninstalled everything and reinstalled bit torrent it would all be fine. except it isn't. when i reinstalled bit torrent and tried to run it nothing is happening, except i get the message: bit torrent.exe is already running, please close all bit torrent processes and try again. i then tried to run another client but exactly the same thing happens. i don't know much about torrents and i'm completely lost so if anyone knows what might be happening, or where i've messed up, i'd appreciate any suggestions or advice.
many thanks for reading, johnnyparker
Use Task Manager and SEE if it is running, which it prob is.
If so, end task and try again, or restart your PC
.
Yes, i tried that, it isn't running according to task manager and when i do try to run it all i get is Bit Torrent not responding. i think i had the same problem with other programmes as well, including limewire and a spyware programme i tried to download. very frustrating not having a clue what the problem is, thanks for replying
Most likely you should uninstall it all!!! And use RegMechanic to fix what its leaving behind or complete uninstall program. ANd use uTorrent, so far when that closes it doesnt leave it running in the task bar like alot of clients are doing.. "ABC torrent for example".
I would also recomend you to try uTorrent.
thanks guys, but i'm close to throwing my hat at it. i tried to uninstall everything and then run u torrent but the message when i try to run it is the same - "u torrent is already running, please close all u torrent processes and try again". really don't know what this means or why it should keep popping up. i'm just about ready to give up with it, appreciate the advice all the same
Most likely you got some issues with windows you need to fix, you shouldnt be getting all these errors with all these clients. You should re-install windows, roll back to earlier date, scan for virus, or reformat and reinstall.. This is a different matter all together.
like the rest, use utorrent
Do you have any process protection software (for example processGuard). Most likely the problem lies in another program that interacts strangely with uTorrent. Are you getting these problems with any other programs?
i have loads of the stuff - spybot, adaware, spy doctor, registry mechanic etc. i was under the impression taht you couln'd have enough protection, but i don't know whether that's the problem. it could be as shawners says something more. anyway, i scanned for viruses and it was clear, i did a system restore, then uninstalled everything and tried to run u torrent again. this time the programme seemed to run, but more funny messages started to come up and i notice when i go to add/remove programmes it doesn't show up there and it won't let me uninstall. reinstalling windows sounds like the next move, but that sounds like a major task and haven't a clue how to go about it
SpyBot, adaware and spy doctor are all anti-spyware. Do you have any AntiVirus software such as Kaspersky, NOD32, Norton, f-secure, McAfee, PCcillin, f-prot, bitdefender, etc....i have loads of the stuff - spybot, adaware, spy doctor, registry mechanic etc. i was under the impression taht you couln'd have enough protection, but i don't know whether that's the problem.
Also that about the more protection you have the better is wrong. If you have two real-time protection antiviruses (meaning they run all the time) can cause problems.
Now you can be under the impression that constipating your system with utilities can be a bad thing. If your OS is THAT tattered, tear it down and start over, the next time be judicious, and make a restore CD soon after you get things re installed and defragged etc.i was under the impression taht you couln'd have enough protection
.
Also about uTorrent not appearing in the uninstall page, it shouldnt so everything is ok. uTorrent is just a single .exe file (uTorrent.exe) so to uninstall it all you need to do is delete uTorrent.exe
thanks guys, my antivirus software is norton and despite my obvious cluelessness my operating system doesnt' seem to be bad at all. the only problems i've had have been with bit torrent and a couple of other programmes like limewire. point taken about all the spyware stuff though, i'm going to get rid of it and see if it helps things.
No offense or anything, but Norton is a piece of shit. Try disabling it and see if anything changes.
