Hello Ive just downloaded Bittcomet after trying Azureus. The problem I have is when Ive tried to download a torrent I get the message YOUR SECURITY SETTINGS DONT ALLOW THIS FILE TO BE DOWNLOADED ?. Ive adjusted firewall settings . I have removed Azureus completley before downloading Bittcomet so theres no conflict there and Im using XP Home with SERVICE PACK 2 .Ive tried different torrents but get the same message.
But Im not using IE , Im using Firefox
Hmm, I havn't heard of this before.
Describe exactly what happens. You click on a torrent link in firefox then what, does firefox
ask what to do with the file?
Can you save the .torrent file then click on it, selecting which program to use if necessary.
Or manually open the .torrent with your bittorrent program?
Is firefox the default browser on your machine?
Try temporarily reducing the IE security settings and see if it makes any difference.
Check the restriced sites list.
What other stuff have you got installed such as norton internet security, zonealarm, spyware blaster etc?
Are you using a secondary download manager? Check your Antivirus settings and also tell us what antivirus youre using. Also check your restricted sites list.
CLICK TO SAVE as.. AND RENAME THe ".torrent" To something else.. Like .BT Leave it at that association, and when you click on it.. IT will bring up a list of programs to associate that file with.. CHOOSE your Bit torrent client.. AND WHAM!
Im using Avast Pro but I have already checked settings there . When Ive found the torrent I need I will click on itto download it , then thats when I get the YOUR SECURITY SETTINGS DONT ALLOW THIS FILE TO BE DOWNLOADED . The thing is its lying because there is no way that my security settings from my Avast , service pack 2.( Firewall ) or Firefox Internet options as they are all at the lowest settings. Im thinking this could be due to an Firefox file being corupt . What do you think about that ? .
So you don't have spyware blaster as was linked to in Krell's post? [If you put it in quotes]
Check Spybot too, Tea Timer resident protection will prevent DLs if im not mistaken.
I don't, dead end. We cant second guess every possible scenario of every software that youve constipated your system with, and this sort of error is usually the result of the "battle of 3rd party software" on your PC.Im thinking this could be due to an Firefox file being corupt . What do you think about that ? .
Go thru things app by app, and uninstall what you suspect may be the problem, and reset the security settings in your browser etc.
And yes this COULD be an Avast problem.
