Angry Upload speed to others is SLOW

My download speeds are good, but everyone is having problems with connections that start slow and go to 0. I've farted around with all the settings in WinMX (3.1). I've checked my firewall and even turned it off. I'm stumped. This is really pissing me off. :fire

what type of connection do you have?

    you've tried connecting as secondary?

Other than that I suspect it has something to do with the network bottlenecking or a drain on your processing power. Turning off any programs you dont need that boot on startup might help some if you're computer is old(er). go to msconfig and look under the startup tab in win98.... in 2000 the only way I know to edit which processes boot is through the registry. ah. does anyone know another way to do this in win2000? winxp I do not use.
I just try and be patient and wait for the people who know more than me to improve the transfer protocol and come up with new innovations. With patience, its a free world! :sw

    ditto

    I'm having the same problem.

I've gone as far as putting my PC on the DMZ end of the router and people still get extremely slow connections to me. Downloads seem to work ok.

    Here's my sysem specs:

    WinMX 3.1
    Primary Connection
    1 Ghz Tbird
    384 MB ram
    WinXP Pro
    3com NIC
Linksys EtherFast Wireless AP + router w/ 4 port switch (This PC has a wired connection to the router)

You log into WinMX by way of the primary connection. I think this means you are running a WPNP server off of your computer, and your uploading bandwidth is either reserved or being used. Go to settings-->WinMX Peer Network and try setting your allocated bandwidth to the lowest setting, or just logging in to the secondary network instead.

    Angry

    FYI: Here's my environment:

Cable modem, 1Mbs downloads, about 200K upload speeds, in general. 1.2GHz processor.

WinMX Peer Network: 10K out, 15K in
    Search duty cycle: 50%
    Incoming limit: 120KB/s
    Outgoing limit: 15KB/s
Normally connect to 2-5 OpenNap peers.

Dammit, I have stuff to share!!!!!

I tried a secondary connection last night and it caused everyone to time out. I also could not join any chat channels. WinMX was restarted and had the same results.

all I can tell is that winmx obviously still has a few bugs to iron out, for myself I cant tell if my uploads are slow on the network because of the prog itself or because of my internet provider; which I am in the midst of an ongoing fight with. THey say they cap it at 128k up and 1000k down. which is just not true. I have yet to ever see speeds approaching this no matter how I allocate my bandwidth and how I tweak the different settings in the registry. which might help you.... dslreports.com has tcp optimizer programs that might optimize your speeds, I did noticxe a difference after using it. And now I have no more advice, sorry andI hope this helps.

Gorphon, I have a similar DSL package as you but instead of 1000/128 I have 720/128. Your DSL or ISP provider is giving you transfer rates in KBits/sec not Kbytes/Sec. If you are approaching 90% of your rated transfer, you should be able to download at .9(1000/8)= 112 Bytes/Sec and upload at about .9(128/8)= 14 KBytes/Sec. Remember, 8 Bits =1 Byte.

I should of made it more clear I think, I know that was in kilobits. I just forgot how many bits in a byte....so I didnt change it up. what can I say, Im just your typical burnout. so, thanks for the info calvin, my estimate was lower. and Im a little less unhappy with my isp.

which still goes down 2 to 3 times a week. :cross

    Talking Upload problem FIXED

Austin Roadrunner blocks the default upload port. I changed both ports for good measure. Downloads now work like a charm.

I also am having problems with my upload speeds...However I have these problems through all version s of winmx. I have a wireless connection to a cisco access point. And I have my wireless LAN card in a 486DX PC running IPRoute(Dos TCP/IP router)....I have all the correct ports mapped....and winmx is the only program that has problems with it.....I can download fine from people but they can't download worth a shyt from me.....I hate this because they always think I am cutting them off and that is not the case.......if anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated

Since its inception almost 30 years ago, the internet has been transformed from a primitive device for sharing thoughts and ideas, into a massive network where people pay to connect and read advertisements they don't want, while calling each other "asshats".

I use a program called "port detective" which can be found here: http://www.portdetective.com/ to see what ports of mine are blocked. You download their free program and then their server communicates with the installed program so you can test specific ports that you have in mind. Make sure no internet-related programs are in use on your computer when using, or the results will be false and it will say a port is in use if in fact it is blocked.

I discovered after using this program that my port 80 is blocked by my ISP Verizon, to stop the code red virus. That virus affects web servers, which usually run on port 80.
