    Question Can Anybody Help?

    Hi,
I've read most threads about download speed etc. and i am not new to bittorrent but i do need help. My problem is that i used to get speeds of around 300kb/s but recently they have never exceeded 60kb/s. This problem not only applies to bitcomet but everything i download on the net. I am running SP2, i have a 1.3ghz processor, 512mb RAM, i am on Bulldog broadband up to 8 meg (but usually 2.5meg). it is a recent problem and i also use a linksys wireless router (always used it so don't think it can be that??!)
Any Help would be much apprciated, if you need any more info just let us know. It is seriously baffling me now, tried everything i can think of and everything sum of you guys have said in previous threads. Like I say it applies to everythin on the net so it gettin a bit painfull now :icon_salu :icon_boun .
    Thanx

What exactly do you mean by this. Is it a constant 2.5 meg connection with a boost up to 8meg? Elaborate a bit more please.

No, bulldog broadband (from cable and wireless) advertise their broadbandas up to 8 meg, but where i live usaully resticts it to around 2.5 meg. so just think of this as a 2.5 meg broadband if this makes it any easier..

Yes I have recently installed a new dvdrewriter, but can i also add that there was quite a major problem with our phone line about 3 weeks ago which lasted for over two weeks, and iv realised that it is since then that i have had these slow download speeds. Could this be the source of the problem?

Yes most likely, so when you solve the phone line problem you will solve the slow speeds problem.

Quite possibly they are limiting all filesharing activity. Cable companies are doing packet sniffing or port caping. Changing ports to 1720 may help, or 1755 on your BT client, and open those ports on your router or firewall as well.

yes, these usually clear up problems with bittorrent clients yet it has affected the speed everywhere on the net, even when i am downloading a perfectly legitmate program (trials etc) it will never go past the 60kb/s down.
i am pretty sure the phone line is the problem though because for it to go down by that much, at the same time the phone line was supposedly 'fixed'.
    thanks for you help though
