some help from you mac die hards
hello everybody
can some mac dude help me with this problem!
I just started to download movies with limewire and downloaded a divX player and stuff. So i can watch the movies but the quality sucz big time, i can't even see anything and that isn't because the movies are bad, cause i downloaded a lot!
The divx player says i should have Windows media player 6.3
but i can only find 7 or later to download.
this probably sounds really complicated, but if you are downloading films on your mac can you show me what i have to do??
thanx

hi, it looks like you're a newbie, so let me try to be simple
1- Download the movie using limewire or similar (like eDonkey or Sputnix) But be sure that the download is completed. It should be over 600meg for a complete movie, but it differs. Compare with this LIST !!!
2- Most movies are compressed using divx format, meaning that you need DIVX CODEC FOR MAC to see the movie.
3- Once you got the codec install, you can use any media player that supports .avi extention. Try WindowsMedia 7.1 or WindowsMedia 7.1 for OS X
4- You shouldn't have any problem, remember... that quality is not the same from movie to movie, and it'll never be like a DVD. But most movies have reasonable quality.
5- If you don't see anything, it's most probably the codec, but also your machines SPEED is important.
OTHER TIPS
- try other mediaplayers
- try other codecs, check this link for windowsmediaplayer :http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...ad/default.asp
- check this site http://www.divxmovies.com, read the FAQ, LINKS
- i dunno, hope this helps

number of options
Go to versiontracker.com and just look for divx. There are a number of programs available that make avi's playable with Quicktime. You don't have to use WMP. Personally I had good experiences with avi2mov, divxdoctor and vlc. Just fool around with it and see what works for you. Btw, the upcoming Quicktime 6 should be able to play avi instantly. Check the apple site for it.
Good luck
