    ISP's looking at implementing a two-tier internet

    Heres the article:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4552138.stm

Theres no real good section to copy paste to give the main intention so just read the article.

Looks like the rich are getting greedier once again. Currently isp's are throttling or blocking certain services on their lines. But in the near future they may be charging extra fee's for online gaming, filesharing, voip services, webconferencing, etc... They are looking at charging extra fees for any high bandwidth usage. These are the services that have pushed people the broadband and now they want to give us the screw over. They claim this is to offset the rising cost of running the internet but thats just bullshit. With new technology its should only be getting cheaper to run these services not more expensive.

I dont know if this has been mentioned before the article on bbs is about a month old but my local paper just ran another article that makes it seem like its becoming reality soon in canada.

Wow the ISP's are making themselves look like real greedy asses by pushing this forward.
Like the recording industry people will replace bad product with something free.

Wireless Lan is making this possible.

This won't work, once people find out that they can't do anything with their broadband but write emails, I very much doubt that they will keep paying high dollars for a broadband internet account! Then the ISP's will see the light.

The best way to send the ISP's a clear message that people simply will not tolerate being ripped off, is to vote with your wallet! If enough people cancel their broadband internet accounts and state to the ISP why they are doing it, the message will come accross loud and clear. This not only affects filesharing, but other services as well. So I think that a lot more people than filesharers would feel the pinch and rebel.

The ISP's wouldnt lose much business over P2P users leaving, it would actually save them a ton of cash as they would not have to buy so much bandwidth to supply for bittorrent. This will really suck but I can see where they are coming from in a way. I know I eat as much bandwidth as 20 regular users. Making others pay more for my high usuage doent seem fair. Making me pay for what I use is how it should be. Bandwidth isn't free, IPS's pay for it and re sell it to its users. The more they have to buy, the higher everyones bill will be or at least thats how it is now. Thus, this is why running these services are becoming more expensive.

Well you may have that opinion, but I don't think that charging people an insane amount for their usage is fair either! I ALREADY pay big bucks for my cable internet here in the states why the hell would I think it should be higher?

And you are wrong about this only affecting p2p users. More people than just those on p2p can use large amounts of bandwith.

And if enough people get ticked off, the ISPs will either take notice and lower prices or have to close up shop. Just the way it is.
