Preliminary official figures at 11 p.m. (0400 GMT Tuesday) showed the Conservatives winning or ahead in 122 electoral districts compared to 103 for the Liberals of Prime Minister Paul Martin.
The result was a personal triumph for Conservative leader Stephen Harper, a 46-year-old economist who forced through the creation of the party in December 2003 by uniting two squabbling right-wing movements.
"It shows that Canadians were looking for change," deputy Conservative leader Peter MacKay told CTV.

FUCKING HELL! As it turns out we the majority of canadians are just as stupid as americains. Harper is to canada as Bush is the the united states.
Not only does the party have members that were lobbied by the cria, they are pro buisness and very pro united states. I have no problem with americains but shit your government and companies screw us over on trade everyday. The conservatives unlike the liberals will probably bend down and take it in the ass.
Other things to worry about, conservatives have a hidden agenda with privatising health care. Theres been leaked documents about this and its very bad. These documents state that the conservative government wants to move to a 100% private health care system. Major news media has stayed tight lipped about these documents but they are floating around and numerous people have backed up their authenticity.

we're here for a good time, not a long time- so have a good time, the sun can't shine every day.....
Don't get too discouraged, Progressives. This is more a reaction to the Liberals' doing what the Conservatives are doing in the States: pandering to special interests. And, after twelve years, the law of averages says that a change was due. Also, the terms "conservative" and "liberal" don't necessarily mean the same things in Canada as they do in the States. Privitizing health care does sound typical, though. As for being pro-US, that might change with the U.S. elections in the fall. A lot of crooked Conservatives in the States are going to lose their seats in Congress and the Senate. A change is on the horizon for the United States too. And, all indications are that it's going to go more to the Liberal side.
Burd, are you the Oracle?
I hope your right.

This might not be a bad thing for Canada at the moment.
A Conservative Minority Government can work a bit of change with
the opposition (badly needed change after 12 years of the same party)
but still have enough leash on them not to go all hardcore on the country.
Also note the only reason why they did win so well is that they muzzled their
far right nut jobs a few weeks before the election,
alot of conservative canidates went on vacation the past few weeks
and that was wise as it was the far right that screwed them in 2004.

Chances are we wont try and piss off anyone during this parliment. He wants to make a good impression. Once he has a majority is when you will have to watch him.

so isnt it contradicting when it says that the canadians are ready for change and yet hes conservative......... and all i can say is good luck cause now you get to be screwed even more like we do in the states.......i wouldnt worry about it though , every government around the world tells its people how to think and how its suppost to be in there eyes so just enjoy your time on this planet as a slave and at times complain about it and never do anything like everyone seems to do .... they say they want change but in all they just want someone to listen to them complain...... but o yeah remember be optimistic.....
Any Windows problems is easly fixed with a gun or baseball bat ......
Same crap,different pile.
I won't vote 'til they give us a real choice.
The whole government needs to be taken out to get rid of the corruption.Unfortunately that'll never happen as long as people believe they have a choice.Ignorance is bliss I guess.
This will be another 4 years that nothing gets done ,jesus I hate minority governments and the bloc has the conservatives by the short hairs now .Well lets see if harper keeps his promises like lowering the GST.
