Question Playing Games 98SE vs XP

ok well I seem to have a decent computer and I am wodering if I run Windows 98SE will I get more FPS and whatnot.

    I have a 2.53GHZ P4, 1GB RAM, 80GB HD + 200GB HD, ATI X800 XL 256MB

I play semi-high end games and high-end games such as HL2, CSS, BF2, and more

    so what should I do?
make a 98SE partition just for gaming or stick with XP

I suggest sticking with XP. 98SE will use less resources and run quicker but most new games are either non-compatible with 98SE or require XP.

More modern so I suppose it would be more compatible for sure. It really depends on your games but a XP Pro install with no crap would be fine.

You can make a windows xp system run very little resources. Quite frankly graphics dont make the game just play on lower settings.

windows XP requires more resources, but also manages system resources more efficiently than windows 98. if you computer can't handle XP well (500 mhz or less) it can be slower overall, but your machine is powerful enough that windows 98 would be worse.

if you want to tweak your system to the extreme hop on a ottent and get a copy of XP embedded, make sure you have EVERY driver you need, go through the device manager look up the driver files and get them all. it will take a lot of learning how to work with XP embedded but in the end you will have a *VERY* lightweight windows XP than only lacks things you choose to leave out for efficiency. you can leave out stuff like internet explorer and windows media player but keep direct X. hell you can even leave out windows explorer if you use other shells like litestep.
