    not valid file?

    Hi,

I hope someone can help me, it might be quite a simple answer (if not the one i want to hear)

I downloaded a film, supposedly for Divx, and avi file. when i try to open this it comes up with a message saying:

"failed to open file. Please check that it is a valid AVI or M-PEG4 file"

It won't open with any media player. I've virus checked it, but it just isn't working.
Is it just a duff file, or is there something i can do to get it working?

    Cheers for any good ideas

Use GSpot to check the file information, then tell us what it reported!

Playing it with VLC is usually enough to get a dodgy avi working, although that won't fix the file.

    So...

You may want to try running it through Virtual Dub. (Make sure 'direct stream copy' is select under the video and audio options). Then resave the .avi

    Usually works for me.
