    Recommended 64 bit apps?

I just installed windows xp pro 64bit and was wondering if you guys have really good software that supports its 64bit abilities.

The first programs ive used that make use of it are unreal turnament 2004 64bit patch, farcry 64bit patch, firefox aka deer park alpha 2, 7zip 64bit, k!tv as well as internet explorer 64bit.

Currently I see very little differance in 64bit mode except for maybe load speeds.

Unreal turnament 2004 saw very little change, I dont think there was any benifit of running in 64bit.

Farcry on the other hand had a few perks running in 64bit mode such as extra levels and slight detail improvements.

Internet exploerer 64bit, 7zip, firefox dont seem any differnt then their 32 bit alternatives.

K!Tv seems to work well, although no differnt then the 32bit version. If you have a tv tunner card that hasnt gotten driver support yet I recommend you try running it with k!tv.

So thats my rundown, what have you guy tried out using windows 64 bit?

Honestly Windows 64 is a waste of time. Its minor insignificant benefits do not outweigh its obvious faults. Even AMD states the improvement at between %2 to %10 with some applications even performing slightly worse then 32 bit processors.

I couldn’t even get 2 of my external devices ( Scanner and Camera) to work via driver problems.

Take my advice, wait for Vista.

Yeah, I'm running it right now and the performance increase is probably about 2-5%, so, it's not worth it.

oh btw, thanks for the recommendation on the k!tv, I'm gonna need it since my TV Tuner would be worthless without it (even according to ATI themself!)

Since this post was brought back up another good program would be Avast! it has 64bit support.

As for waiting for vista, I would rather run xp 64bit then that pile vista. The nice thing with the 64bit windows it seems more stable to me. Driver support for my system isnt bad either, the only thing I havnt got running is my webcam. Im also guessing vista 64bit programs and drivers will work with windows xp 64bit much like windows 2000 and xp drivers are interchangable.
