Software to convert .avi files to DVD format

Friends: I am trying to convert my .avi files to DVD format. I tried Nero but I am asked to pay more for the plug-in. I tried Cucusoft from Shrink.com but I am told it takes 6 hours to convert the files to DVD format. Is there a better software out there I can use? Thanks a lot for any help.

    Man, double-posts.....

Use DVD SANTA. Absolutely the best, and your 8 year old can handle it. Just enough options without having to be Einstein to use it.

How come you can download AVI files that are freely available, but your unable to download nero thats freely available and install it ?? Use nero vision express, or iMTOO converter.

Thanks a lot for all your help guys. Will try out your tips and give you a feedback. Sure appreciate. Just that I was disappointed that after paying so much for Nero I am asked to pay more for the plug-in. Thanks again!!!

You don't even have to be Simple Simon to use it. It is really easy.

My only gripe is it's encoding engine is v-e-r-y slow, and the video isn't exactly what you would call 'clean'.

I've said it once, so I don't mind saying it again:

    Main Concept MPEG encoder
is the cleanest and fastest DVD MPG encoder on the market. Try a like for like comparison. You'll need to run the output through a DVD authoring program once you've encoded your video, then burn it. Simple.

The standard in the US is NTSC.

Second that. Out of all the encoders Ive tried so far MainConcept's MPEG encoder is the best.

Because everyone lives in America.... and besides just change the drop down menu to NTSC if you happen to live in the US.

Let me know what you think, but don't try the trial version if you know what I'm saying. It has a crummy nag screen that displays over the picture. This thing is wicked fast!

I've been testing the WINavi MP4 converter for PSP/iPod/PPC, and it's damned fast as well.

I've converted about 10 videos of differing lengths, frame and bit rates, and so far it's been flawless. The audio is in sync and the aspect ratios are what they should be. I can't say the same about any of the many others I've tried (even Nero).
